Summary: You and Park Jimin have been rivals for as long as youâve known one another; ever since he tripped you in the front row of your first dance convention. When you graduate from high school and enter Russet Ballet Academy, you tell yourself youâre leaving all past quarrels behind. The main problem with this though, is that your past seems determined not to leave you alone.
Worse still, the obstacles you face while out in the real world might prove more challenging than anything your enemy has to offer. Â Â
It was nearly eleven when you returned to your room later that night, collapsing on your bed in a disgruntled heap. You barely had enough energy to change out of your clothes and shower, though you forced yourself to do so, if only for the sake of appearances.
Noelle was already asleep, so she didnât have the presence of mind to grill you, but her questions came as soon as you woke up the next morning. Seated at a table in the coffee shop on the corner, you opened your yogurt and spilled your frustrations.
âSo, thatâs where I am,â you said, shaking your head when you reached the end of the story. âMiss Britt pulled me aside and I need to find someone to tutor me, fast. Fun times.â
âThatâs bullshit.â Noelle looked outraged. âYouâre clearly one of the best dancers at Russet! Itâs why Sabrina has such a problem with you. She knows youâre competition.â
âThanks,â you said, a bit glum. âBut Miss Britt is right â Iâm no ballerina. I need more practice if I want to catch up to the rest of class.â
âBut you donât even want to be in Russetâs ballet company! Youâre a talented dancer outside of that specific genre.â
âTrue. But if I canât make it through freshman year, that doesnât really matter â does it?â
Noelle fell silent for a moment, not having a response as you sighed.
âItâs not like I expect you to have a solution,â you admitted. Scooping another bite of yogurt from your parfait, you shoved this in your mouth. âItâs my problem to figure out.â
Noelle leaned back. âMaybe you should take Miss Brittâs suggestion,â she said.
You gave Noelle a look of such open disgust, she had to laugh.
âIâm serious!â She grinned, taking a sip of her coffee. âObviously, Sabrinaâs the worst, but you could ask Jimin. Is he really as bad as you say?â
âThat all depends,â you mused. âIs Satan as bad as they say?â
âNever met him, so I canât be sure.â
âWell, I have met Jimin and can definitively say heâs the worst. If I went to him for help, Iâd never hear the end of it.â
âHm.â Noelle sounded skeptical to you; she clearly thought you were exaggerating, but this was one subject on which you were unwilling to budge. âMaybe you can ask someone else, then. An older student? Oo â you could ask Seokjin! Heâs so hot.â
Perked up by this idea, you casually stirred your coffee. âYou know what, thatâs not a bad idea. Heâs super talented and clearly knows what the teachers are looking for.â
âSee!â Noelle set down her fork. âYou have plenty of options.â
âYou might be right,â you said with a smile.
Feeling marginally better about the whole situation, you pulled out your phone to search Russetâs website for Seokjin. All the teacherâs assistants had a web page where they offered private lessons, much like Miss Britt and other teachers. Unfortunately for you though, all of Seokjinâs slots were full.
This seemed to be the case with most upperclassmen and you sighed, standing from the table to clear your place. Discouraged by this, you threw your phone in your bag while you left the shop. Noelle began suggesting other students she knew while you walked to class, but you had already begun to fixate on what was probably a terrible idea.
The more you thought about it, the more you realized Miss Brittâs initial suggestion made sense. Sabrina was frustrating, but she knew all the teachers and had the most training of your class in classical ballet. True, you hadnât gotten off to the best start, but youâd played a part in that, too. The first night you met, you didnât have to be a dick to her.
Most importantly, you didnât have the same history with Sabrina that you did with Jimin. Jimin had been your rival since day one â itâd take more than some halfhearted peace offering to make him forget that. Your relationship with Sabrina was new enough you still had hope it could change.
Besides, you already knew she did morning barre on days off from class. Surely, she wouldnât say no if you asked to tag along. Cheered by this thought â you were the type of person who enjoyed having a plan â you perked up, chatting eagerly with Noelle as you walked to class.
Wednesday ballet was held by Mr. Jordan, the only teacher at Russet who was routinely late to class. Only by five minutes, but you found it remarkable how consistently he hit this deadline. The rest of the class arrived fifteen minutes early regardless â better to be consistently early than to be late the one week Mr. Jordan wasnât, and be banished to the hall.
You and Noelle entered at 8:50 AM, setting your bags on the ground to stake out your place at the barre. You were midway across the room when you saw Sabrina and paused.
Her pointe shoes were already on, doing slow relevés at the barre in the center. You hesitated only a moment before turning to Noelle.
âIâm going to do barre over there today,â you said, nodding in Sabrinaâs direction. âSee you after, okay?â
Noelle looked up in alarm, but you had already turned, halfway across the floor. When you reached Sabrina, you set your bag down and took a long sip of water.
Sabrina ignored you, placing one leg on the barre to bend at the waist. You waited a moment for her to rise and when she did not, set your hand on the barre.
âHey,â you said, waiting for a response.
Sabrina didnât react.
Moving to stand opposite, you lifted your leg to place beside her own. Stretching an arm overhead, you leaned forward until your face was mere inches away.
âHowâs your morning?â you said, trying your best to be pleasant.
Sabrina released a long, slow sigh.Â
âGood.â
You waited, but she said nothing more and, feeling kind of stupid, you glanced over your shoulder. Noelle remained at your usual spot by the door. You were momentarily tempted to leave and join her, but then you remembered what Miss Britt had said. You needed a tutor.
You could do this. You had made it to Russet Academy, dammit â asking Sabrina to help couldnât be more difficult than fifteen years of ballet class.
âDo you have a second?â you said, lowering your voice. âI wanted to ask you something.â
After another long pause, Sabrina raised her head. âWhat?â
She sounded curious at least, which you supposed was a start. Even if said curiosity didnât extend to her lowering her leg, or even her voice.
âUhâŠâ You blinked, your nervousness rising. If Sabrina said no, it would be absolutely humiliating. âI know youâve been training at Russet longer than most people in our class.â
Sabrina stared. âAnd?â
You bit down on your lip to keep from saying something youâd regret. Clearly, Sabrina wasnât going to make this easy on you and again, you wondered if this was a bad idea. You reminded yourself that youâd committed to doing whatever was necessary to keep your spot at Russet.
âI donât know if you noticed, but ballet isnât really my dance style.â Ignoring the small smirk she gave, you continued. âI know itâs yours though, so I was wondering if youâd be open to practicing together sometime. You know, maybe you could give me some pointers.â
Sabrina looked at you a long moment, then lowered her leg. Bending lithely at the waist, she grasped her water bottle to take a casual swig. She remained silent the entire time, forcing you to stand there and watch. To stand there and wait while she considered your proposition.
The kernel of humiliation within you grew even further.
Sabrina turned her head. âDo you know what my mom said to me when I told her I wanted to dance professionally?â
You blinked, not having expected this as a response. It wasnât an actual answer to your question, so you tried not to sound annoyed when you said, âUh, no.â
Sabrina arched a brow. âShe said there wasnât much room for women at the top.â
âShe⊠huh?â
âSuccess is a zero-sum game.â Sabrina spoke slowly, as one would to a child. âThere are fifteen spots offered at the end of our four-year program. If you get one, that means thereâs one less spot for me at the table. Why would I help when itâs to my best interest not to?â
For a moment you could only stare at her, open-mouthed.
âSee?â Sabrina set her water bottle down. âYou canât even think of a good reason. Maybe you werenât a ballerina before, but you were a dancer. You know how competitive this field is, especially for women.â
An uncomfortable feeling spread through you. Sabrinaâs words were remarkably similar to what you had said to Jimin but still, you hated hearing them thrown back in your face.
âYou donât think this is all a little⊠juvenile?â you said, a last-ditch effort to salvage the situation. âThis isnât high school anymore, Sabrina. Weâve all made it.â
âYeah â to Russet,â she said, point blank. âThis is barely the start if you want to dance professionally, Y/N. Itâs nothing against you personally, if that makes you feel any better.â
âOh, good. As long as itâs not personal.â
Sabrina smirked. âWell, maybe itâs a little personal. Like I said to you yesterday, I really wouldnât mind having Jimin for a partner. If you got kicked out, that would solve things, wouldnât it?â
Teeth gritted, you stopped the next words from leaving your mouth. They hung on the tip of your tongue, stillborn while you pointedly shoved them back down. If you said anything more to her, you might seriously regret it and Sabrina wasnât worth that kind of stress to you now.
Turning around, you bent to pick up your bag â only to stop as Mr. Jordan entered the room.
âSorry Iâm late, class!â he said, shaking free from his jacket. âSubway was a nightmare. Anyways, Iâm here now, so letâs start.â
Realizing you were stuck, you slowly turned back around. It seemed your place at the barre had been decided. Sabrina hid her smile when you took a step closer, placing one hand on the barre and lifting your chin in the air.
It had been silly to ask Sabrina for help. You apparently expected too much from someone so utterly determined to rise alone to the top. You could only assume that kind of attitude would one day rise to bite her in the ass but until then, you just had to grin and bear it.
Even more irksome was the fact that sheâd said so many of the same things youâd told Jimin. Pushing this uncomfortable thought aside, you forced yourself to concentrate on the combination Mr. Jordan began.
The entire length of the barre, you avoided eye contact with Sabrina. It was a difficult feat, but you managed it because you had no other choice. Throughout tendus, dégagés and rond de jambes, you sucked it up and stood next to Sabrina in glowering silence.
You were so concentrated, the time at the barre seemed to go by faster than usual. The first time you glanced at the clock was when Mr. Jordan stopped to call for a water break.
Bending abruptly, you grabbed the straps of your bag and said nothing to Sabrina while you walked away. Setting your stuff by near Noelle, you straightened and began to furiously unscrew your cap. She gave you a sympathetic look while you did this, reaching overhead to studiously re-do her bun.
âThat bad, huh?â she said.
Furious, you scowled. âSheâs an asshole.â
Noelleâs brows shot straight up. âDamn,â she whistled. âWhatâd the ice queen say?â
âThat she hopes I drop out,â you said shortly, turning around. âThat thereâs only so much room for women at the top. She told me dance is a zero-sum game and if she helps me get a spot at Russet Company, itâd be one less spot for her to take.â
Noelle made a disappointed noise with her tongue. âSee,â she said, around a mouthful of bobby pins. âThatâs exactly the kind of attitude thatâs kept women down for centuries. Letâs ban together to burn the men!â
Although you laughed a little, you quieted quickly. Remembering your conversation with Sabrina made your legs a bit shaky. Shutting your eyes, you took several deep breaths until you felt calmer.
âI know,â you said with a sigh. âI know that itâs stupid and ultimately, I donât care what Sabrina thinks â but she just makes me so mad.â
âShe really said she hopes you drop out?â
Opening your eyes, you nodded. âApparently, she wants Jimin as her ballet partner.â
âW-ow.â Noelle shook her head. âThis plot has more twists than the Winchester mansion.â
Unable to help it, you snorted. âOh, well,â you said glumly, following Noelle out on the floor. âItâs probably for the best. If this is how she reacts to me asking for help, imagine how awful sheâd be as an instructor.â
âYeah, you definitely dodged a bullet there,â Noelle agreed.
When Mr. Jordan cleared his throat, this led to a scurrying of movement as everyone took their places. He began to show the combination, leading the class through the steps with an easy poise. When the time came for you to break into pairs, you were forced to look around the room before you spotted Jimin.
He stood on the opposite side from you, practicing the steps Mr. Jordan had laid out. You blinked, hesitating a moment before crossing the room to his side. Every time before now, he had come to stand beside you.
Coming to a stop, you looked at him curiously. âWhyâre you over here?â
Jimin shrugged in response.
You opened your mouth to continue, but then Mr. Jordan began the partner portion of the combo. Falling silent, you stood beside Jimin while you learned the steps. He was oddly quiet. This quietness alone wasnât enough to raise any brows, though you typically exchanged at least minimal small talk. You know, hand here, leg there, lift your arms higher â that type of thing.
His silence wasnât the only thing about him that was odd, though. His grip on your waist felt different today â rough, almost angry as you practiced the first lift. You winced when you landed, stumbling a bit as you whirled around.
âWhat was that?â you demanded.
Jimin blinked innocently. âWhat was what?â
You stared at him a moment before deciding it wasnât worth it. âWhatever,â you said, turning around. âGentler, next time â okay?â
âSure.â
Jimin moved back into place, standing in fifth position while Mr. Jordan started the song over. The combination wasnât an adagio, comprised of slower movements, but a fast-paced pas de deux heâd created last week. You didnât have much experience with this kind of partnering; most of your classes had preferred slower movements so far.
The fast pace required a higher level of trust with your partner, since you didnât have time to second-guess all their movements. Apparently, Mr. Jordan had decided the fastest way to learn was to do. Jimin led you through the combination, one hand firm on your waist.
Normally, Jimin was a solid male partner to you. He knew when to push, when to hold back and when to allow you to take the lead. This no longer seemed to be the case. As you started to dance, you found yourself a bit dizzy. Jimin didnât let you finish each spot before he whisked you around, keeping you â both literally and metaphorically â on your toes.
A swear nearly escaped when he pulled you to his chest â eyes flashing, you turned and started to boureĂ© away. Jimin chassed forward, ending in a lunge for circular port de bras.
âYouâre doing it again,â you muttered, moving behind him.
Facing forward, you piqued into arabesque.
âDoing what?â he said blithely.
Jimin twisted, grasping your hand in his as he crossed behind. Placing one hand on your hip, he waited for you to wrap your leg around him in attitude arabesque.
âYou know what,â you hissed, as he walked you in a promenade.
Extending your leg fully, you lowered yourself in a penchĂ©. Contrary to their appearance, penchĂ©s were difficult to do with a partner. It involved an extension to arabesque, then bending with said leg held at a ninety-degree angle, or higher. The male helped with the motion, but his addition altered both your centers of gravity. It might have seemed logical for him to stand behind you, but he actually needed to stand slightly off center. It was easy for one â or both â of you to lose your balance.
You and Jimin had practiced the move enough that itâd become second nature â which is why you began to panic when you felt Jiminâs weight shift.
âJimin,â you whispered, clenching your abs. âStep back!â
âStep back?â he said innocently, not moving at all.
âYes! Jimin, you ââ
He languidly stepped into the correct position, helping you up a second before you toppled over. You spun, eyes blazing and Jimin caught your knee. The smile he gave you sent rage through your veins, since it was instantly apparent heâd been fucking with you.
You imagined those cartoons where the main characterâs head exploded, or became a volcano, or turned into a tea kettle that had steam escaping. This was exactly how you felt, but there was no time to respond, since the next portion of the combination was fast and required intense concentration. Shooting Jimin a glare which promised him a painful death, you continued.
Luckily, barre had been long, so only one combination remained until you were released from class. You contained your annoyance until class had ended, turned to stalk across the room the second Mr. Jordan turned off the music.
Noelle chuckled when she saw, noticing your clear annoyance. âOh, no,â she said, glancing across the room. âWhatâd he do now?â
âOh, nothing,â you seethed, tossing things in your bag. Yanking out sweatpants, you tugged these over your leotard. âNothing a little conversation wonât fix.â
Knowingly, Noelle nodded. âIs âconversationâ code for beating Jimin up in the parking lot?â
Despite yourself, you laughed, slinging your bag over your shoulder. âUnfortunately not,â you said with a sigh as you walked from the room. âThisâll be a lot less fun.â
You came to a stop in the hall, some of your anger diminishing. A current of annoyance simmered beneath the surface though, since it was one thing for Jimin just not to like you â it was another entirely that he purposefully antagonize and jeopardize your career. This was exactly what youâd been worried about when youâd been assigned as partners.
âWell.â Noelle glanced at the room. âDid you want to get dinner tonight? You know, after youâre done tearing Jimin a new one.â
âDinner sounds good,â you agreed. âIâm hanging out with Finn later, but Iâm free before then.â
Noelle nodded sagely. âGood, good. I hear itâs healthy to fuel up before a massive sex marathon.â
Jimin â whoâd been exiting the room â stopped short.
âUh â what?â he said, glancing between you.
Waggling her fingers goodbye, Noelle shrugged and walked past. âNothing for you to worry about. Good luck walking later, Park!â
Jimin stared at her as she left, completely bewildered until you grabbed him by the elbow and started dragging him away. He stumbled forward, not having expected the motion â but caught up to you fast as he tugged his arm free.
âHey! Whoa, Y/N â whatâre you doing?â
You whirled to face him in the hall.
âWhat was that?â you demanded.
Jimin blinked at you, uncertain. âUh, letâs see. I was minding my own business and you just assaulted me ââ
âDuring class,â you interrupted, gesturing at the classroom. âYou had such an attitude today. You canât even say it wasnât purposeful, because ââ
âY/N.â Jimin stared in disbelief. âAre you seriously asking me whatâs wrong? Your memory canât be that short.â
Faltering a bit, you came to a stop. Jiminâs expression told you you were missing something big. It was last night, you realized. Jimin was mad about last night, when heâd chased you down the hall and youâd basically told him to fuck off.
âAh,â Jimin said, seeing your understanding dawn. âI take it you remember now. That time you ambushed me in the hall and said I donât deserve to be here?â
âThatâs⊠thatâs not what I meant by that.â
âOh?â His laugh sounded forced. âYou told me I only worked half as hard as you did.â
âWell, because you do!â you sputtered.
The words escaped despite your intent to stay cordial. Jimin was right; you had exploded last night and some of that wasnât his fault, but the core of what youâd told him remained. Guys did have an easier time than girls in the dance world. That was just a fact.
âCome on, Y/N.â Angrily, Jimin shoved a hand through his hair. âYou seriously think that Iâve had it easy? I used to hide my dance stuff in a hockey bag because all the kids at my school teased me about wearing tights.â
Somewhat uncomfortably, you recalled what Finn had said the other night at dinner. Jimin wasnât wrong about external prejudices regarding male dancers.
âIâm not saying you werenât teased, Jimin.â
âTeased?â He stared at you in disbelief. âY/N. I was beat up every day on the playground for the entirety of third grade. When I was eleven, some kids filled my locker with used tampons because I was a âpussy.â Freshman year, I asked a girl to the dance and she said yes â only to stand me up the night of because her friends thought itâd be funny. I once went to ballet class in bare feet for a week because some assholes stole my bag and hid it in the womenâs locker room. My life was shit half the time, Y/N,â he said, with sudden vehemence. âThe only reason I kept going was because I love dance more than anything else.â
Jimin stopped talking, slightly out of breath and you stared at him in shock, never having heard him this angry before.
Youâd thought that you had. Youâd thought heâd been angry all those times you beat him in dance, but you had never seen Jimin looking anything like this. Hurt, a little broken and fiercely determined.
In some ways, it felt like the first time youâd seen him.
âYeah, wellâŠâ You paused, trying to gather your thoughts. âI donât know what to say to that. That sucks.â
Jimin laughed, a bit hollow. âYeah, sure,â he muttered, glancing away. âFuck. I didnât want to⊠make you feel bad, or whatever. Thatâs not why I said it. I just wanted you to know Iâve also overcome stuff to be here.â
Hearing him speak, you both bristled and wondered why he said it like that. Like he wanted you specifically to know and not someone else.
âIâm not saying you havenât worked hard,â you admitted. âThat sucks, but it doesnât take away from the fact that there are ten female dancers for every one guy. Dance is a lot more competitive for women than men.â
âYeah, but that doesnât mean I havenât also worked my ass off.â
âNo oneâs saying you didnât,â you snapped, finally fed up. âIâm just saying more doors were opened for the effort you gave than for mine. And besides,â you added, unable to help yourself. âIâm sure it was real hard, coming from Harleigh Heights.â
Jimin seemed baffled by this. âWhat does my hometown have anything to do with this?â
âOh, come on, Jimin. You canât be that naĂŻve.â
âWhatâre you talking about?â
âYouâre rich!â you blurted. âOr at least, your family is. You could afford all those fancy master classes in the city. You had private lessons, small group lessons and whatever else your parentsâ money could buy. All I had was Ritaâs Dance Studio.â
Jimin hesitated. âRitaâs isnâtâŠÂ bad.â
âJimin,â you said. âI was the only person from my studio to ever place at national dance competitions.â
âThat doesnât mean the studio itself was bad!â
âYou have a fucking car in the city!â
He gave you a bewildered look. âWhat does⊠that have to do with anything?â
âItâs just another reason weâre different,â you groaned, rubbing your temple. âI know you work hard. I know you do, but youâve also had way more advantages than I have and sometimes, that sucks.â
Jimin paused. âThatâs not really something I can control.â
âItâs not,â you admitted through gritted teeth. Deciding you were done with this conversation, you moved to walk past. âIt isnât your fault, but the challenges weâve faced arenât the same and you know it.â
Before you could leave, Jimin grabbed your arm.
He turned you to face him, barely an inch from his face. Everyone always said Jimin reminded them of a puppy â cute, loveable, and eager to please. This had never been something you agreed with. Sure, Jimin could be cute when he wanted to be, but beneath that lay a deeper hunger, an insistent desire to prove himself in a way you found all too relatable.
Jimin held your gaze. âSeeing as youâve never walked in my shoes and Iâve never walked in yours,â he said quietly. âWhy donât we stop making comparisons?â
Your gaze narrowed a bit, but before you could respond, he continued.
âIf youâre having trouble keeping up, stop making excuses and ask someone for help.â Abruptly, he dropped your arm. âOtherwise, youâll never improve.â
Jimin left without another word, jerking his bag higher as he stalked down the hall. You watched him go, too stunned to do anything else.
His last words â however accurate â made your ears burn. Hands curled into fists, you saw red for awhile, until Jimin had gone. After several deep breaths, you finally calmed down enough to be objective.
Unfortunately, objectivity was not in your favor, because Jimin was right.
He was right about you and you hated that fact. Even if your circumstances had been different, all that had changed when you both were accepted to Russet. Now, you were on a level playing field and you were the one person hanging on to what came before. The only thing that mattered now was what happened next; if you couldnât compete at Russet, youâd be pulled from the game.
And the one person standing in the way of success was yourself.
Jimin had nothing to do with your lack of ballet technique. Sure, he had more money than you did â seriously, who brought a car to the city? â but it wasnât like youâd been destitute. Your parents had made enough to afford all your lessons and costumes and dance competition fees. Youâd had a studio, even if it wasnât a fancy one within city boundaries.
Exhaling, you considered the other point he had made. While it was true male dancers had certain advantages, Jimin was damn good despite this. If you were being honest, you knew he was one of the best dancers at Russet regardless of gender.
Nearly ten minutes had passed before you began to walk down the hall. Everyone else had left for lunch, so it was just you and your thoughts as you exited the building. You felt exhausted, only partly because of the intensity of Mr. Jordanâs class.
Youâd always been a planner. It was something your parents had teased you about but secretly, youâd always enjoyed. Here though, you felt at a loss.
For the first time in your life, you were forced to consider what would happen if you gave dance everything you had â if you tried everything you could think of â and still came up short. Everyone always said if you loved something, keep trying and youâd eventually succeed, but youâd seen enough by now to know this wasnât necessarily true.
Everyone at Russet was talented. Everyone here was a hard worker. You didnât make it this far without both of those things â which meant you could have it all and still fail.
Coming to a stop on the sidewalk, you released a sigh. It was mid-September and already, the leaves had begun to change. Youâd been at Russet for nearly a month and felt youâd yet to make any real progress.
Pushing this thought away, you wondered what youâd do with your life if you got kicked out. Go to a college near home, maybe. Find another career path thatâd be mildly fulfilling and yet, nowhere near the release you experience through dance. The idea of it made you feel somewhat ill.
All youâd ever wanted in life was to dance. On some level, youâd thought things would be easier once you got into Russet. This had been a naĂŻve expectation; you saw that now. Lift and the struggles which came with it refused to stop for even a second. Again, your former dance teacherâs words came to mind. If dance wasnât truly what you wanted, it was better to give up than to go through the struggle.
You did want it, though.
Even if you had to go through hell to get it, dance was the thing which made you feel alive. If you didnât make it at Russet, you could figure out what to do next â but until that moment came, youâd do absolutely everything necessary to make sure you stayed.
In the back of your mind, a voice whispered â even ask Jimin for help? â but you ignored it. That question could wait for another day, you decided as you walked away.
Even though heâd made some valid points, everything else still made you see red. The more you thought about it though, the more persistently his words seemed to grind away your resolve. Jimin may have been pissed at you, but he was also correct.
You could either continue to walk around campus feeling sorry for yourself, or you could improve.
Teeth gritted, you decided to do the latter.
Lounged at the foot of Finnâs bed, you scrolled through your TikTok in an endless loop.
âUgh, my muscles are so sore,â you complained. Reaching out your foot, you poked him with your toe. âMassage them for me.â
âAll of them?â
âUh-huh.â
Grabbing your foot, Finn pulled this into his lap. To his credit, he started to give â well, not a massage, but he did something. Finn began poking the bottom of your foot with his index fingers until you finally laughed.
âOkay, not that!â you grumbled, pulling your leg back.
Finn grinned and turned a page in his book while you let your gaze linger. He looked good, dressed in sweats and a t-shirt heâd pulled on after sex. It was the first time all week youâd been truly alone; things had gone faster than usual, but that was to be expected. It had been awhile since the last time. It was nice just to see him, to touch him and talk to him â youâd missed having a semblance of normalcy in your life.
Innocently, Finn flipped the next page in his book. âWhatâs wrong? You didnât enjoy the pleasure of my touch?â
âI did not, no.â
Tossing his book aside, Finn bared his teeth and began to crawl forward. With a shriek, you backed away until your spine hit the wall and you laughed.
âNo,â you begged, kicking his shin as you grinned. âNo tickling!â
Finn growled mercilessly, but eventually relented. Twisting, he dropped to lay his head in your lap.
âOkay,â he agreed. âIâll just hang out here, then. My book is so far away. I guess I canât study. Too bad.â
Although you rolled your eyes, you leaned your head to the wall. Finnâs roommate was gone for the weekend, giving you the entire place to yourselves. You knew youâd have to leave at some point â ballet class started tomorrow at 8:30 AM â but until then, you could happily live in denial.
âDonât you have homework to do?â you asked. âTests? Something?â
Finn shrugged. âI already studied today.â
A twinge of jealousy went through you, although you squashed this immediately. Finnâs collegiate experience was different from yours, but this was through no fault of his own.Â
Youâd arrived at his dorm room shortly after dinner and, after unloading the crappy events of your day, Finn had merely shrugged and said his day had been fine. It seemed Finn was adapting to Redfield like a fish to water; nearly everyone you passed on your way to his room had stuck their head out to greet him.
On your way over, youâd considered asking Finn for advice about Jimin, but had given up on the idea soon after arrival. Visiting Finn was like stepping into a bubble. You knew the vision would pop as soon as you stepped outside, but it was nice to exist outside the worries of Russet.
Finn wouldnât understand what you were going through either, which again, wasnât his fault. His greatest stress was an upcoming test, while you were constantly on edge about whether youâd fail. There were no grades in your classes, no real way to tell if you were passing.
The most difficult part of Finnâs freshman year had been registering for his classes; a fact which cast your experience in stark perspective. If Finn dropped a class or had to miss a test, it didnât really matter for him in the long run. It mattered for you.
Every time youâd previously mentioned Jimin to Finn, his advice had been to simply ignore him. It wasnât the best advice, all things considered. Jimin was your assigned dance partner for the semester; you needed him in order to pass your classes.
It helped some to vent, but at the end of the day, you didnât want Finn trying to fix things for you. That was what he did â he solved things. He loved to fix other peopleâs problems, loved to tie up loose ends and find neat solutions. The problem was though, you werenât sure such easy answers existed.
Before you could suggest a movie to watch, someone knocked on the door to Finnâs dorm room.
Lifting his head from your stomach, Finn called, âEnter!â
The door swung open to reveal a tall, gangly-looking freshman in the hall. He looked at you with some surprise before glancing at Finn.
âDude,â he said, sounding excited. âSigma Nu is having a crazy party two blocks away. Ellie just texted saying thereâs no cover for guys. A bunch of us are heading over â you in?â
âWhat â seriously?â Finn sat up straight. âNo cover? Thatâs a first.â
He beamed and glanced at you, so you gave a small smile.
âIt is?â you said tentatively.
Your words sounded uncertain even to your own ears, but Finn nodded excitedly. You hadnât been out enough times this semester to notice.
âComing!â door guy yelled to someone in the hall. Stepping back, he returned to the room. âSo, you in?â
Your automatic reaction was no, since it was a Wednesday and you had class tomorrow, but before you could speak, Finn hopped from the bed.
âSure!â he agreed, searching for his coat. âY/N â you good with that?â
Hesitating, you fiddled with a corner of his blanket. Ideally, youâd love going to a weekday party with your boyfriend. Finnâs enthusiasm could be contagious, and you wanted to see him in his collegiate environment. Heâd been the life of the party at high school and you knew itâd be the same here.
Unfortunately for you, ballet class wasnât something you could just forget. Youâd made it a personal rule not to drink before class and it would be no fun to attend a frat party sober. You were already skating on thin ice at Russet; you could only imagine what would happen if you showed up to class hungover.
âI donât think I can,â you said softly, wishing the guy would leave Finnâs room. âI have ballet in the morning. Remember?â
âOh.â Finnâs disappointment showed for only a moment. Hiding this swiftly, he sat back down on the bed. âSorry, Ben,â he said, forcing a smile. âI think weâre staying in.â
Door guy â Ben, apparently â paused. âYou sure?â
âYeah.â Finn nodded. âY/N and I already have plans.â
Ben seemed confused; you assumed from this that he wasnât the brightest bulb in the bunch.Â
âReally?â he said with a frown. âI thought you said you wanted to come.â
âItâs my fault,â you interjected, feeling a bit guilty. âI have class super early in the morning.â
âOh, is that all?â He brightened. âThatâs no big deal â so do I!â
Your lips tightened, not wanting to be rude, but this guy just wasnât getting it.
âYeah,â you said slowly. âBut I canât be hungover for mine.â
Ben stared. âHuh. Okay, well â if you change your mind. So weird,â he laughed, exiting Finnâs room to the hall. âI didnât even know you had a girlfriend, Finn? Later!â
Pulling the door shut, he left the two of you in silence.
You stared in shock at the door, attempting to process everything you were feeling.
There was guilt at keeping Finn from something he wanted to do. Longing, from not being able to do the fun things that you wanted. And nausea, at hearing Ben say he didnât know Finn had a girlfriend.
Hesitant, you glanced in Finnâs direction, but found him looking away â at the ceiling, at the floor, anywhere but at you.
âSoâŠâ You paused. âWhat was that about?â
âWhat do you mean?â Finn leaned back on the bed. Turning on his TV, he navigated to Netflix. âWant to watch a movie, or something?â
âI guess.â
You continued to sit there, clutching his blanket and staring blankly at the screen. After another moment, you decided this couldnât be brushed aside and faced him on the bed.
âWhy havenât you told anyone you have a girlfriend?âÂ
Finn looked at you, surprised. âI have!â
âOh?â you said, glancing at the door. âThen, why didnât he know?â
Finn snorted. âBen? Look â I like him, but the dudeâs not the sharpest tool in the shed. As you may have noticed,â he added, giving a pointed brow raise.
Begrudgingly, you nodded. You had noticed.
âHey.â Finn sat up straight. Clicking off the TV, he scooted closer on the bed. âI swear Iâve told people about you,â he said, taking your hands. âPromise. Ben is just an idiot. The instant someone is off-limits to them, they turn invisible. Heâs probably even forgotten his sister by now.â
âGross,â you said, wrinkling your nose.
Finn nodded in agreement. âExactly. Benâs an ass. I wouldnât even hang out with him if it werenât for the other guys on the floor. College. You know how it is.â
âSure,â you said slowly, although you really didnât.
There were multiple people on your floor and at Russet whom you didnât like. You werenât unfriendly to them, of course â with Sabrina being the exception â but neither did you hang out with them just because you were classmates. This entire world of collegialism was foreign to you.
âI love you,â Finn said.
Finally, you cracked a smile. âLove you, too.â Sliding both arms around his waist, you settled down on his chest. âSucks about Ben being a dick, though.â
Finn laughed, brushing a kiss to your hair. âI think Iâll survive.â
You shook your head, knowing he was right. Finn always got through things like this; troubles seemed to easily roll off his back like water. You watched him turn on the TV and choose a comedy on Netflix.Â
When the first scene began, you tried hard to relax, but this proved to be difficult. In high school, youâd been able to compartmentalize fairly easily but now, you found worries steadily leaking back in. Your Finn-bubble, the one which had always been so impenetrable, had started to become porous.
Worries about Russet, about your classes, about your teachers began to seep in and no longer did Finnâs dorm room seem like such a haven.
You didnât belong here.
The thought occurred to you suddenly, as obvious as knowing the main characters on screen would eventually get together. Finnâs world was entirely different from yours, completely alien from Russet and you had no idea how to navigate the two worlds together.
It made you uneasy to consider, seated with your head on his shoulder and arms around his waist, but instead of facing this knowledge head-on, you pushed it away.
Too many things were being kept in your mind-boxes and, instead of disappearing, the thought continued to linger. It followed as you left Finnâs dorm, walked through the city streets, up the steps of Grace Hall and all the way to your bed.

Deanâs POV
âHey,â said Sam a little over an hour later as he walked in the front door. Dean nodded and put the pie heâd brought into the fridge, walking back over to take a seat on the other side of the wrap around couch. âYour eyes are red.â
âThatâs what happens when you cry, genius,â said Dean. He sighed and pulled his blanket over himself, rolling his eyes when Sam got up and sat closer. âItâs embarrassing.â
âEmbarrassing was me being really sick when I was sixteen and shitting my pants and you didnât say a damn thing about it other than you got me cleaned up. Dean nothing you can say will make me laugh. Fuck, Iâm scared somebodyâŠâ said Sam.
âYouâre gonna find out stuff about my sex life,â he said.
âYou taught me about sex. Dean, Iâm not gonna judge you.â
âI hooked up with a chick after work once. I had some meetings so I wore a dress shirt and tie that day. We got a room, it got heated, and my first mistake was letting her tie my hands to the headboard with that stupid tie. I shouldnât have asked but I did. I must have been in a mood cause...I asked her to stick a finger up there cause it feels good with a blowjob. I told her the tip of a finger and she didnât really seem to care when I told her to stop pushing inside with a dry fucking finger. She didnât care when she shoved practically her whole hand up there no matter how much I told her to stop. Eventually once she realized my boner wasnât coming back she washed up, untied me and left. Iâve always been leery of relationships but after that I said fuck no. Until I met this girl today. She seems sweet.â
Sam didnât move and Dean threw his head back.Â
âSay something.âÂ
âIâm so sorry that happened to you,â said Sam quietly. Dean risked a glance over at him and was surprised to see Samâs scrunched up face. âDid you ever say anything?â
âNo and I donât want to. It was over two years ago. I honestly forgot about it until today and I met that girl,â said Dean.
âI hope sheâs a good fit,â said Sam.
âMe too.â
âJust um, for the record, doing that stuff isnât weird. Iâve had my share of experiences,â said Sam.Â
âThanks,â said Dean. âDonât go on treating me any kind of way or anything, got it? This was a one time thing.â
âThatâs what you said the last time,â said Sam before he gave Dean a hug.Â
âLoser,â said Dean as he returned it. âYou staying the night? Itâs pretty late.â
âYeah if you donât mind,â said Sam as he sat back. He stretched and Dean looked him over. âWhat?â
âYou were at the office, werenât you.â
âSo,â he said with a shrug.Â
âSammy youâre twenty seven. Friday nights are for fun or hanging out at home, not work. I told you I didnât like that firm you work for.â
âItâs not a very kind place to work,â said Sam. âIâve been thinking of leaving honestly, coming closer to home again.â
âReally?â
âI miss my friends, our friends. Youâre alright too,â he said, Dean resisting the urge to tease him for it.
âMove in here. If you want your own place, you can find one with no rush. I wouldnât mind company,â said Dean. âThereâs plenty of law firms downtown. Youâd have no problem getting a job.â
âI gotta stay another two months for them to finish paying off my loan,â said Sam. âBut after that, yeah I think Iâll come back home. I just had to go out on my own without you watching my back, you know?â
âYeah. I was still always watching your back though,â said Dean. âDonât be trying to get me to eat all that healthy crap or Iâll kick your ass to the curb.â
âYou are literally a doctor.â
âAnd doctors are literally the worst patients. Trust me,â said Dean with a smirk. âWhat kinda pie you bring me?â
âBlueberry,â said Sam.
âI gonna ruin whatever cleanse youâre on if you have a slice?âÂ
âYou got ice cream?â
âAlways were a sucker for ice cream,â said Dean. He hopped up from the couch and hummed as he went over to the kitchen, Sam watching and following after a moment. Sam took a seat at the counter while Dean put a plate in front of him, putting the ice cream on top of the pie how he liked it. âThere you go.â
âThanks,â he said before he dug in. Dean took his time with his own piece, leaning back against the counter.Â
âThanks for coming over tonight. Never told anyone before.â
âIâll never say a word,â said Sam.
âI know you wonât, Sammy,â said Dean. He got out a pair of beers from the fridge and handed one to Sam with a smile. âYou doing okay? Been awhile since we talked.â
âMhm,â said Sam quickly.
âWant to tell me what it is? Whatever youâre not telling me? I think we established that-â
âMom contacted me this week. At work. My number and picture was on the company website so she called there,â said Sam.
âWhat exactly did Mary have to say?â said Dean, setting down his plate and nursing his beer instead.
âShe said she and dad have been together again for a few years. They went to couples counseling and dad stopped drinking and a whole bunch of other bullshit.â
âWouldnât happen to be the fact Iâm a doctor and youâre a lawyer and her stay at home ass wants a nicer lifestyle, hm?â said Dean. âTell her to shove it up her ass and to get a job if she wants money.â
âShe sounded different, Dean. Like maybe sheâs in trouble or something,â said Sam.
âThatâs the same crap she pulled on you when you were eighteen and twenty one and twenty four and guess what, itâs three years later again. Time for her to lie to you, right on schedule.â
âSheâs not the devil, Dean.â
âShe slapped you in the face.â
âI was backtalking her. I deserved it.â
âYou were an upset kid-â
âI was 14.â
âYou were an upset kid and she hit you. That was the final straw for me and it should have been for you too,â said Dean. âYou should stay away from her, Sam.â
âIâm not going to suddenly start hanging out with her. She just wanted to know if Iâd consider meeting her and dad again and I told her I didnât know and if I wanted to talk to them, Iâd reach out, otherwise they could leave me alone. Happy?â Sam pushed his plate away and crossed his arms, pursing his lips while he stared at the counter.
âI just donât want you to get hurt, Sammy. I wish our parents were normal. Iâd kill to have had them. But they werenât and they sucked and theyâve tried to manipulate us our entire lives. Just keep no contact and youâre better off.â
âWhy donât they ever contact you?â Sam looked up and Dean turned his head.
âThey hate me. I hate them so thatâs fine,â said Dean.Â
âBut why-â
âI got custody of you. I took you from them in their eyes, ergo they hate me.â
âI mean, do you ever think about-â
âNo. I donât plan on speaking to either one of them for the rest of my life,â said Dean. He finished his beer and picked up his pie plate again. âI know you want-â
âI used to want a lot of things. It wasnât what was best for me though and I shouldnât have given you so much shit for taking me away as a teenager.â
âWell alright then,â said Dean, picking at his pie again.Â
âYou ever gonna tell me how exactly you pulled that off? It was handled outside of court and I know you gotta have some shit or something on them,â said Sam.
âMaybe Iâll share someday but not tonight,â said Dean, his voice firm. âWhy donât you grab another couple beers and weâll throw on a movie, alright? Polish off this pie.â
âAlright. Iâm stealing some of your clothes though. I want to get out of this office crap,â said Sam. He stood up and headed for the stairs when Dean grunted. Sam looked back over his shoulder and Dean nodded.
âIâm glad you came over tonight,â said Dean.
âMe too. This girl must have made a hell of an impression.â
âYou donât know the half of it.â
Readerâs POV
âTessa. Oh my God, it was fine the first time,â you said as she worked on your side braid again. âDeanâll be here any minute.â
âRelax. Make him squirm,â she said. âHow are you so shit at braiding hair anyways?â
âCause mom never taught me, thatâs why,â you said.
âI think itâs cause youâre just shit at it,â she said.
âYou shouldnât say shit all the time you know.â
âSeriously.â
âJust donât do drugs and donât get pregnant and Iâm happy.â
âWell for the record, Iâm a virgin,â she said.
âGood.â
âI actually do have a question.â
âYou waited until I literally canât move away, didnât you,â you said as she moved your hair together.
âYes, I did,â she smiled. âUm itâs kindaâŠâ
âGo ahead and ask. I guarantee I had the same questions.â
âWhatâs a vibrator? One of the girls was talking about it in gym class and I didnât...get it,â she said.
âDo you understand how girls masturbate?â you asked. She nodded and you bit your lip. âSo you know how when you rub your...when you rub your clit it feels good, right? Some people like to use a vibrator which is normally a stick type thing that has different settings with a head end thatâs rounded. If you put that against your clit, it can feel really, really good...and get you to orgasm pretty hard.â
âOh. Okay,â she said as she finished with the braid. âSo whatâs a dildo?â
âSimilar but basically a fake dick,â you said.Â
âUh, what?â she said as the doorbell rang.
âHow about we talk about all this stuff tomorrow, okay?â you said.
âOkay. Iâm still hung up on the fake dick thing.â
âBlock it out of your head for now,â you said, shaking your head. âIf Iâm not back by the time you head to Haileyâs lock up and remember to bring Toastâs bed with you this time, okay? He likes it better than the hard floor.â
âI know, I know,â she said. You jogged downstairs and opened the door, Dean in a pair of jeans and a black tee shirt.Â
âHowdy,â he said with a big smile.
âHi Dean,â said Tessa out her window.Â
âHello Tessa,â he chuckled. âTorturing your sister today?â
âAlways,â she said. âYou two kids have fun now!â
âOh you donât even know what a fake dick is,â you said. âDo not go looking that up on the internet either.â
She groaned as you grabbed your purse and locked up, Dean laughing to himself.
âSorry. She decided to literally start asking about sex toys right before you got here.â
âSounds fun,â he said. You hopped down your steps and saw a very nice muscle car parked out front. âHungry?â
âStarving.â
âI know the perfect place.â
âOkay, Winchester. I will respect your food truck game,â you said, munching on your taco. âNormally Iâm leery but this is good.â
âTold you so,â he said. He took a big bite of his across from you, slurping down some lemonade. He burped and blushed, covering his mouth. âExcuse me.â
âYouâre almost cute with that pink on your cheeks,â you said.
âI liked this better when you were the shy one,â he said. You smiled and ate quietly for a few minutes, Dean nodding when you were both finished. He took your hand and you started to walk around the big park in town, finding a walking trail after a few moments. âI like your hair. Itâs cute.â
âMy sister did it. Iâm not you know, good at that stuff,â you said.
âI liked your hair yesterday too,â he said. âSo how does one name a dog Toast?â
âI thought itâd be funny,â you said. âTessa was on a limited diet at first at the hospital. Toast was the one thing she liked. When they talked to me about a service dog, I got in touch with some people and they were training a new litter so we got to name the dog and I picked Toast. It was just a goofy thing I suppose.â
âIs he always on duty?â he asked.
âNo. His vest comes off at home and heâs a normal one mostly. Tessaâs staying with a friend tonight so heâll go with her. Heâs very protective of her. Itâs why he ran home and got me yesterday.â
âSmart dog,â he said. âMy brother always wanted a dog. It never quite fit with our life though.â
âHow old is he?â
âA year younger than you. He might get one soon I think.â
âWhat about you?â
âI donât think Iâd be very good at it. My yard is big enough though,â he said. âIâm over on Fern Lane. The blue house.â
âYou got that big cool balcony over the garage right?â you said.
âThatâs the one,â he said. âI havenât been there too long. Itâs a nice neighborhood.â
âIt is. We grew up here. I was out of the house but I moved back for Tessa. You from Lawrence?â
âYeah. East side of town though. Always wanted to live over here,â he said. âEverything seemed so perfect over in the nice part.â
âMostly,â you said.Â
âIt does get easier. Trust me.â
âI hope so,â you said. He bumped your shoulder and you smiled. âSo what kind of doctor are you?â
âObviously Iâm a brain surgeon,â he said. You rolled your eyes and he laughed. âGeneral family practice. Iâm boring, I know.â
âThat is still way too hard for me,â you said.
âI bet you could do it if you really wanted to. So what do you do? I overheard you say to Tessa you got a new job.â
âI was a paralegal at a law firm. On Monday I start as a junior investor at Sandover, the big marketing firm.â
âMy friend Charlie is head of IT there,â he said. âShe says itâs a pretty decent place to work.â
âOh. Thatâs good. I hope it works out,â you said.Â
âI bet it will. Just donât let âem work you to death,â he said.
âIâm gonna try. Iâm excited. This could be really good for us. Tessa doesnât know how...tight things have been.â
âLeemanâs over on the east side, itâs a pretty cheap grocery store. Itâs not fancy but we used to go all the time as a kid. Way cheaper than the box store over here,â he said.
âIâll have to check it out,â you said. You looked him up and down, Dean smiling to himself. âYou grew up kindaâŠâ
âPoor? Yeah. Itâs okay. Itâs not a bad word,â he said. He ran his thumb over your hand and you smiled back at him. âYou learn to get by. My brotherâs a lawyer now so we donât have to worry about that too much now.â
âMaybe Tessaâll be a doctor,â you said. âThatâd definitely help us.â
âIâm sure sheâll do something good. You can just tell she looks up to you. She wonât let you down.â
âFingers crossed,â you said. âSo why choose general medicine?â
âThanks,â you said, sticking your arms through Deanâs flannel later that evening. You took his hand again, walking through downtown back towards his car.
âI donât remember the last time I spent a Saturday like this, hanging out with someone,â he said.
âBeen a while for me too,â you said.
âIs this still considered the first date?â he asked.
âProbably. Why?â
âYou want to come over my place...for coffee?â he asked.Â
âOh.â
âNo, no. I mean like, literal coffee. I have pie at home and...if I was talking sex Iâd be a big boy and just ask,â he said.
âOh. Well in that case, sure,â you said. âGuys that want sex on the first date normally donât end up getting a second one in my experience.â
âWell I definitely want a second one,â he smirked. âAlso I really want some pie and I need to know your pie stance because this could impact the future of this relationship greatly.â
âI see,â you laughed. âI like a man who knows where his priorities lie.â
âDamn straight I do,â he said. He threw his arm over your shoulders and chuckled. âItâll knock your socks off, I guarantee it.â
âAlright, this is pretty good,â you said twenty minutes later as you sat at Deanâs kitchen counter, munching on a piece of blueberry pie.Â
âTold you so,â he said. He ate another forkful, getting some whipped cream stuck on the tip of his nose. He didnât notice and started to giggle as you stared at him. âWhatâs that face for goofy?â
âYou got a littleâŠâ you said, reaching over and wiping it off with your thumb. You licked if off and he blushed for probably the tenth time that day. âYou donât strike me as shy around women, Dean.â
âNormally Iâm not. You make me nervous. Good nervous but still nervous.â
âWhat about me is so intimidating?â you asked, stealing a tiny piece of his pie.Â
âYou remind me of me. Iâve been in similar shoes to yours. I know how easy it is to get set off and how people donât realize you donât mean what youâre saying.â
âPushing people away you mean.â
âI donât want to get pushed away or cross a line.â
âTell me a secret and Iâll tell you one of mine,â you said.
âI took custody of my brother when I turned eighteen,â he said. You stared at him, Dean nodding. âMy mom walked out when I was a kid more than once and my dad was...unkind at times. I protected my brother from it as much as I could. When I was able to, I left and I was given guardianship of my brother. Iâve not seen either of my parents since. I understand raising your younger sibling when you are scared shitless. Most people donât. They donât get that Iâm still fucked up from the stuff that happened as a kid and when I took in my brother. People donât get that, not all the way. Not even my best friends or my brother. But you have this look and I know you understand the same way I do so Iâll be nervous because I like you more than just because youâre pretty and helpful and a good sister. You get some part of me that I donât talk about and itâs the part of you that you donât talk about and maybe we can make that work.â
You leaned forward and kissed him, Dean sliding a hand to your cheek, a soft but comforting weight to it.
âWhatâs your secret,â he said quietly, your forehead resting against his.
âI lost my job,â you said. âI lied to Tessa. She worries so much already and I canât let her know the truth. Iâve been working as a cashier the past month.â
âY/N, you gotta tell her the truth.â
âShe already feels guilty because our parents were picking her up from basketball practice when the accident happened. She goes to therapy, Dean. I canât tell her. Not now.â
âCan you afford to stay in the house?â
âItâs almost paid off. She can afford four years at the university with my share of the inheritance.â
âY/N. You canât go bankrupt just to send her to a university.â
âLots of people do.â
âY/N. I practice general medicine because the state pays off my student loan debt if I do. You have to tell Tessa the truth about whatâs realistic.â
âMy seventeen year old sister currently makes more money than I do. I canât take anything else from her. She deserves to go to the school she always wanted to.â
âWell...we need a new lab tech at work. Do you want it?â he asked.
âDean, Iâm not asking for a job.â
âIâm not giving charity either. You have a degree, youâre smart and I know you could do it. I donât know the pay but itâs got to be better than minimum wage.â
âDean.â
âSomeone helped me. I was an eighteen year old kid with a part time job and I had no idea what I was doing. Someone helped me and it gave me a chance to live, to have all this. Itâs not charity. Itâs decency and everyone deserves that.â
âNever tell my sister,â you said.
âIf you take the job I wonât.â
âOkay,â you said with a nod. âThis was a more fun date a few minutes ago you know.â
âBut now weâre really starting to know one another,â he said. You were quiet, playing with your fork for a beat.
âCan I stay over? I donât like sleeping in the house alone.â
âOf course,â he said. You flicked your eyes up, Dean offering you a smile.Â
âHow do you get happy again?â
âHaving a stranger run by shouting about toast helps,â he said. You rolled your eyes and he shrugged. âIâm not joking.â
âWhy are you single?â
âIâm more complicated than I look at first glance. Iâve been told itâs not an attractive quality.â
âWell fuck whatever bitch said that.â
âI really like you,â he chuckled.
âI have my moments,â you said. You sat back, Dean pushing the bit of pie left on his plate around. âWas that too much...me sharing that.â
âNo. Iâm glad you did,â he said. âYou want to watch something?â
âWhatever you want is fine.â
âCome on,â he said. He showed you upstairs and gave you some clothes to sleep in before he showed you outside to the balcony over the garage. âI sit out here at night sometimes.â
âItâs gorgeous,â you said. You settled down into an oversized chair with him, looking up at the dark sky.
âYes, it is,â he said as he looked in your direction.Â
âSo whatâs your favorite kind of pie?â
âOh well if you want to go down that road I can chat your ear off all night.â
âGood morning,â said Dean as you made your way downstairs. You yawned and gave him a smile, Dean handing you a cup of coffee.
âMuch appreciated.â You took a long gulp, stretching out and taking a deep breath. âWhat time is it?â
âAfter ten. We stayed up pretty late talking,â he said.
âI guess we did,â you said, rubbing the back of your neck. âCan I have your phone for a sec?â
âSure,â he said. You put in your number and handed it back.
âText me sometime,â you said.
âI think Iâll take you up on that,â he said. âI gotta run and do a few chores this morning but Iâm having a few friends over later to watch football if you and Tessa would like to join.â
âYou really want my sister hanging out with us?â
âYeah. As long as sheâs like, not a devil worshipper or doesnât like pie sheâs always welcome.â
âOnly you would categorize those two things together,â you laughed.
âI am quite serious about my pies.â
âOh I learned that last night,â you said. âIâll invite her. Sheâs seventeen though so not sure how much fun sheâll have.â
âThereâll be a couple guys her age if-â
âSheâll definitely be there then,â you said.
âGreat. Letâs have some breakfast quick before I drop you off at home.â

The Marriage Project (8)
Hello, hello, hello! Hereâs chapter 8 after a long break since chapter 7! If you havenât all ready, make sure you go check out the prologue to Sweet Home Alabama once youâre done here, as I may post the first chap very soon!
Story Masterlist
Word Count:Â 2178
Warnings: Some language? I canât think of anything else
% approximately the 3rd week of October %
You hadnât really told anyone what youâd been doing Sunday, and especially left out the part where you were with Tom.
Once getting home the previous night, youâd quickly taken off your makeup and brushed your teeth before essentially passing out on your bed. Youâd also snoozed your alarm enough times that youâd had to rush to school that morning, getting to class with only a minute to spare.
In the afternoon, your friends sat around a lunch table discussing how your weekends had gone.
âMine was pretty boring. How about yours, y/n?â Caroline asked.
âIt was fine. Mostly did homework. Oh, and I took some senior pictures yesterday, but thatâs it.â
âOh thatâs why your hair is straight?â someone else asked.
âYeah, I got home late and woke up late so I just tossed on some jeans this morning.â
âWhere even were you? Your snap maps said you were at the lake,â Alexis stated.Â
To say that question made you nervous was an understatement. You didnât want to give anything away so you tried to keep it vague.
âOh, yeah. The photographer knew of a place out there we could go so I said yes.â
âWho was your photographer? Iâve been looking to get pictures done,â Caroline said.
Well, there goes ambiguity.
âHah, well, Nikki Holland.â
âIsnât that Tomâs mom?â Alexis asked, squinting at you. You sighed.
âYes. Iâve been at their house a lot for the project and her whole career is photography so she asked me if I wanted her to do my pictures for free. I couldnât turn that down.
âSo thatâs why you and Tom were at the same location yesterday!â Alexis exclaimed.
âWhat! Keep your voice down!â
âSo itâs true? You and Tom took your senior pictures together? I was waiting until youâd admit why you were together.â
âOkay there are so many things I need to address but firstly, we did not take them together, we just did them at the same time. And secondly, since when do you have Tom on snap?â
Alexis rubbed the back of her neck and looked away. Everyone else looked surprised and kept quiet.
âRemember sophomore year when I went to that party while you were out of town? And I told you I made out with someone? WellâŠ.â
âALEXIS!â
âI was drunk, okay? By the next day I realized how gross it was, but I kept him on snap so I could keep tabs for when we talked trash about him.â
You folded your arms across your chest and stared blankly across the table at your best friend.
âAnd you just didnât think to tell me that you, I donât know, made out with my mortal enemy and have had him on snap for the past 2 years?â
âI thought youâd be mad at me! Obviously it was the one time, and weâve never sent each other a single snap. This was about you anyways and how you and Tom spent yesterday together. Where were you, actually?â Alexis asked, looking at you expectantly. You rolled your eyes.
âHis grandparents have a lake house, okay? His mom planned the whole thing and the leaves were pretty colors, so it was whatever.â
âHm, I guess soâŠâ Alexis trailed, giving you one final look of âthis conversation isnât overâ before someone brought up a different topic.
%
With volleyball regionals that upcoming weekend and Tom having an away game, you and he decided to work together that Thursday at his place.
You quickly rinsed off after practice and headed over to his house where he was waiting at the door.Â
âTook you awhile,â he commented as you came up the sidewalk.
âYeah, sorry. I got caught talking to coach about this weekend. It also takes forever to get these leggings on right out of the shower,â you joked, gesturing down at your athletic pants.
You got to work pretty quickly as there was a lot to do as compared to normal. By the time you finished, it was almost dinnertime.
âOh, I think my mom finished all those pictures if you want them. Letâs go find her,â Tom suggested, leading you downstairs.
Her and Dom were in the kitchen cooking together. It was sweet watching them interact.
âHey, mom? Did you say you had that flash drive done?â Tom interrupted, causing both parents to turn.
âYes! Iâm glad you reminded me. Dom, hold down the fort while I go get that.â
She led you to her office, then dug around her desk until she found it, handing it to you.
âYou know, dinner will be ready in probably 10 minutes. Youâre free to eat with us tonight,â she offered.
âAre you sure? I wouldnât want to impose.â
âYou never impose on us! And absolutely, we always make more than enough food so the boys can take leftovers to school.â
Well if youâre sure⊠Iâll text my mom and make sure she doesnât mind.â
She didnât, so as you waited for dinner, you sat down on a living room couch, Tom taking a recliner nearby. From the corner of your eye you saw Paddy walk in the room and freeze when he saw you.
âY/n! Lovely to see you on this fine evening,â he greeted, sitting tentatively on the other end of the couch. You held back a chuckle at his word choice.
âAnd you as well, sir. How was your day?â you asked, trying to get him out of his shell.Â
His eyes widened as he told you all about his school day. You prepared to reply when Dom came and announced the food was done.
You followed everyone to the dining room and stood watching, not wanting to accidentally take someoneâs seat.
âOh, you can sit here, y/n,â Paddy said, pulling out a seat for you in the middle of the table. You glanced to Tom, who was rolling his eyes.
âThanks, Paddy. What a gentleman you are,â you complimented as he helped tuck in your chair. He took the seat on the left of you as Tom sat on your right. Directly across from you were Sam, then Harry and Dom on either side. Nikki took the head.
âY/n, why donât you get what you want first,â Nikki suggested, gesturing over the food. There was spaghetti, salad, and bread. You got only a little bit of each thing, trying to be polite.
âThatâs all you want? Iâm pretty sure Iâve seen you eat more on the bus to soccer games than that,â Tom commented. You raised your eyebrows at him and nudged his knee with yours.
âThomas! Donât be rude! Y/n, youâre free to however much or little youâd like. You can always go back for more later, too.â
Dinner went relatively smoothly aside from that, most of the conversation being centered on you as different family members wanted to know different things (Paddy especially as heâd trained his eyes on you almost the entire evening). For the most part, Tom was quiet except to crack a few jokes or answer something you asked him.
As everyone was finishing their meals, you offered to help clean up.
âOh, no, donât worry. Itâs Tomâs job to do the dishes tonight,â Dom told you.
âI donât mind helping him. I can dry if nothing else.â
After being reminded a few times that you shouldn't feel the need to, you went with Tom to the kitchen anyways, holding a towel.Â
âYou really donât have to help me, you know. Youâre technically our guest,â he said as the sink filled with water.
âSeriously, I donât mind. I have nothing better to do anyways since I finished my homework.â
You worked together pretty much silently, falling into a comfortable rhythm. As you set down the last plate, Tom spoke up.
âHey y/n, think fast.â
âWha- TOM!â you exclaimed, as he had shot water at you, making the front of your shirt wet. âOh you are so dead for that!âÂ
You jumped on his back, pressing your wet shirt against him, causing his own shirt to dampen. He thrashed around, the both of you laughing.
âWhat the hell is going on in- oh,â said Sam, who entered the room.Â
You both froze in place, you quickly sliding off Tom as Sam looked at you skeptically.
âYour brother just sprayed me with the faucet, so I was getting back at him,â you tried to convince him. It is what happened after all.
âRight... I was just coming to grab something from the drawer, so Iâll leave you all to it,â he said awkwardly as he dug around the drawer and quickly made his leave.Â
You and Tom both looked at each other awkwardly before bursting into laughter.
âYou know youâre lucky this is a dark shirt,â you said after a moment.
âAm I though?â
âTOM!â
%
When you got home a little bit later, you decided to plug in your flash drive and look at all the pictures Nikki had taken. You were marveling at her work when your phone started buzzing. It was Alexis.
âHey, whatâs up?â you picked up, confused as to why sheâd call on a Thursday night.
âHey. I saw that you were home so I figured I was good to call. Are you alone?â
âYes, and why do you need me alone?â
She paused.
âLook, y/n, Iâm sorry for bringing that stuff up about Tom in front of the girls Monday, but, since I donât know when Iâll be able to get you alone again, I need to ask you something.â
âOkay what is going on?â Youâre scaring me a little.â
âI hate to be the one to ask this, because I know you and we came up with that whole revenge thing at the beginning of the semester but⊠do you⊠have feelings for Tom?â
You were taken aback at her question.
âWhat! Me have feelings for Tom? Are you crazy?â
She sighed.
âWell itâs just that, you two are always together now, your usual bickering has turned into normal banter, and you literally traveled to take pictures with him last weekend. It just seems like something else is there, and the whole school is starting to pick up on it.â
Ironically, you had frozen on a picture of you and Tom from Sunday, one of you standing in your sports uniforms back to back.
âOkay so maybe weâre kind of friends now, but that doesnât mean I like him! And how many times do I have to say that the pictures were just at the same time?â
âThen explain to me why his momâs website has multiple pictures of you two together?â
Your blood ran cold and stomach dropped.
âWait, what?â you breathed, immediately going to pull up her page. Like Alexis said, a picture of the two of you posing was at the top of the home page. It was the same one youâd been looking at before. âOh, no,â you whispered.
âAre you seeing it?â she asked.
You gulped.
âYep. But, itâs not that bad, right? I mean she takes tons of sports pictures and we look super serious. Itâs not like weâre standing with our arms wrapped around each other or anything.â you rationalized, half joking at the end of your sentence.
âYou might want to scroll down, thenâŠâ
You went past a photo of just you on the dock railing in your jumpsuit to find one of Tom lifting you over his shoulder, but of you laughing.
âYouâve got to be kidding me,â you muttered.
âAre you sure youâve got nothing to tell me? Iâve had lots of guy friends and most of them don't do that to me.â
âYes, Alexis, Iâm sure. He was getting back at me for something and acted like he was gonna throw me in the lake. I didnât realize Nikki took any pictures of it. Iâll ask Tom about it.â
âIf you say so⊠Iâll believe you. But you do know you can tell me anything, right?â
âOf course I do, and Iâm telling you right now that nothing has happened or will ever happen. Weâre just friends, okay? Now Iâve got to go. See you tomorrow?â you finished.
âOkay, see you tomorrow,â she signed off, ending the call.
You felt another pit in your stomach thinking about how youâd lied to her. You definitely didnât have feelings, but why didnât you tell Alexis about that moment youâd had in his room a couple weeks back, or how you'd fallen asleep on his shoulder Sunday night, or even how youâd accidentally seen him naked?
Because sheâd think thereâs something there.
But there isnât.
But..?
You shook the thoughts away as you texted Tom, asking him to take a glance at his momâs website.
âOmg I have no idea why she used the third picture. Iâll see if sheâll change itâ he answered.Â
You were glad he would save your asses like that, but felt a twinge of sadness for it to be replaced. You almost didnât mind it being there.

DAY 1: If Ash was aware of his feelings for Misty during their journeys together
Quick note: I donât know why, but the story on fan-fiction doesnât show up for some reason? It must be an error, but for the meantime Iâll post the written stories on tumblr. When the fanfic is available on the website again, then Iâll post a link! (Sorry for the inconvenience!)
It was a hot summer day.
Ash, Misty, Brock, Togepi and Pikachu were walking to the beach. Today was a free day, so they decided to fight the heat by swimming in the cool water. It was busy at the beach, but they managed to find a place.
"Finally!" Misty sighed as they all sat down on a towel under a beach umbrella. She pulled her scrunchy out and let her hair fall down. She pushed through her hair with a loud sigh. "It was getting too warm...I need to cool down!"
"Same here." Brock sat down next to her. "Now, I have packed some sandwiches for today. Delia forgot to do so last minute, so I..."
He stopped talking when he saw Ash and Misty stare at him with a hungry gaze. Togepi chirped and pulled a little at his t-shirt. Brock sighed and pulled the sandwiches from his bag.
"Okay, just eat, you two hungry snorlaxs."
Misty and Ash both hungrily ate their sandwiches. Brock rolled his eyes as he took a bite of his.
After finishing their lunch they all dressed. Ash and Brock wore simply swimming boxers while Misty wore a cute yellow bathing suit.
They all jumped into the water screaming while Pikachu looked after Togepi on the side of the water.
Misty had called out her staryu and swam around with it, while Brock and Ash splashed around in the water, throwing water at each other and acting like boys would do their age.
"Hey Mist!"
Misty stopped swimming and turned her head towards Ash's voice. But he was nowhere to be seen...she only saw Brock, floating on his back.
"Ash?" Misty asked, a little panicked. What if he had gone under? Or what if he had gotten hurt or...
"BOO!"
Misty moved back as a certain boy popped out of the water in front of her. She went under for a minute and when she swam back up to the surface she saw Ash, laughing loudly.
"Buwhahaha, your face!" Ash laughed.
"You jerk!" Misty swatted water towards him and tried to hit him. "I got really scared!"
Ash raised his eyebrows with a teasing smile. "So you got worried for me? I didn't knew that you were such a softy!"
"You're dead!"
Ash shrieked and swam towards land as Misty chased him at tremendous speed.
When he reached the beach, he ran onto the sand. He hoped that Misty had given up, but boy, he was wrong.
The girl caught up to him and grabbed him from behind into a headlock. Ash managed to pull himself free and turned around. He held his hands up in defense and smiled nervously at her.
"You don't need to do this..." Ash said. "Calm down..."
"You're right..." Misty cracked her knuckles. "I don't need to do this."
Ash sighed in relief. "Good..."
"I want to do this!"
Misty pounced onto him. They fell down onto the sand and rolled around. Ash tried to get the upper hand, but eventually Misty ended up on top. She laughed as she looked down at him.
"Gotcha! Now what do you gotta say?" Misty asked.
"You're weird."
Misty leaned in closer to him. Her face was only inches away from his. She glared down at him with an angry look in her eyes.
But Ash wasn't scared.
His heart was suddenly thumping a lot louder than usual. Her marine-blue-green eyes...there was suddenly something about them...he noticed a few freckles on her face and got a sudden urge to kiss them away.
"Ash?"
Her voice caught him out of his thoughts. Wait, what was he even thinking?! This was his best friend!
"Yeah, yeah, you were right! I'm sorry, so get off!"
Misty jumped away from him. Ash blushed nervously and sat up while Misty celebrated.
"Finally!" Misty yelled. "I win!"
"Yeah, yeah..." Ash put his hand against his chest. Pikachu walked up to him and looked at him with a questioning look. Ash kept wondering why his heart was still beating...was he sick?
"Ash, are you sick?"
When they got back to his house Ash his face was still flushed and his body was heating up. His mother had put him on the couch and put a blanket around him. She put her hand on his forehead and frowned.
"I told you not to get in the water." Delia said. "You get sick so quickly..."
"I'm no...hatsjoe!"
Ash sneezed into his elbow. Delia sighed and petted his head.
"Right..."
"Miss Delia?"
Misty walked into the room. Between her hands she held a plate with a bowl of soup. Ash shot up and gulped. If Misty had made that...
Misty noticed his nervous gaze and rolled her eyes. "I brought soup for you and no, Ash, I didn't made it. Brock made some. I'm only here to deliver."
Delia giggled. "Misty, why don't you sit next to Ash and feed him?"
"H-huh?!" Misty yelled.
"Mom!" Ash yelled.
"Come on. My poor boy is too weak to eat himself...and Misty, didn't you say that you would do anything to help her?"
"Yes, but..."
"Thank you dear! Now I can check if Brock won't burn down our kitchen!"
Delia giggled and she ran off. Misty and Ash both sweat dropped. Brock wouldn't do that...
Misty sighed. She sat next to Ash. She grabbed the spoon, filled it with spoon and held it in front of Ash.
"Open up. Aah."
Ash rolled his eyes at her. "Could you be warmer?"
"I'm not going to coddle you. You might be a kid, but..."
"Aaah..." Ash close his eyes and opened his mouth. He opened one eye and looked at Misty.
Misty groaned and put the spoon into his mouth. Ash smirked as he swallowed the bite.
"Don't be all smug." Misty said. "I'm only doing this because your mum told me to!"
"Hm-hm."
After Ash had finished his food, they decided to watch a movie. Brock and Delia decided to join them, but soon stepped away as they weren't a big fan of action movies. Pikachu and Togepi both stayed, but mostly played around on the floor.
But Ash couldn't concentrate on the movie. Instead he found himself glancing at Misty from time to time.
The movie suddenly played a romantic scene with two people kissing. Ash shrieked and covered his eyes. Misty looked at him and laughed.
"Ha, you're such a prude!" Misty said.
Ash pulled his hands away to uncover his eyes and glared at her. "Shut up. As if you're not embarrassed with this scene."
"I'm not. I already had my first kiss."
Ash' heart dropped and he looked down. "Oh...uhm...then..." He scratched his neck and coughed. "Ahem...with...who?"
"Who? Rudy."
"H-h-huh?!"
Misty shrugged. "Yeah, but it was pretty short. And dry for some reason. Why do you ask?"
Ash blushed and averted his eyes. "No reason..."
"Na-ah!"
Misty moved closer to him with a small smile and intriguing eyes. "Come one! Tell me! Why are you suddenly interested in my love life?"
"Well..."
"Well?"
"It's stupid." Ash said and he tried to move away, but there wasn't much space left on the couch.
"No, tell me!"
"It's..."
"Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me!"
"IT'S BECAUSE I LIKE YOU, OKAY!"
Misty became quiet. She looked at Ash who was now completely red. He pulled his cap closer over his eyes.
"Since..." Misty moved closer. She pulled the cap from his head and whispered; "since when?"
"Since yesterday."
"Yesterday?!" Misty yelled. "Are you sure you're in love with me?!"
"Yes!"
"Then...what do you like about me?"
"Huh?"
Misty put her hand on his arm. "You must like me for a reason, right?"
"Kinda. I mean...I like you because you're awesome. And you are a good trainer."
"And?"
Ash blinked. "And what?"
Misty moved even closer and whispered; "Give me another reason. Come on."
Ash gulped. "So...I also like you because you're feisty and confident. You always know how to cheer me up, you're always by my side and...you're really pretty sometimes."
Misty pulled back. "Okay."
She looked back at the movie. Ash stayed frozen in his seat, baffled. Wasn't she almost about to kiss him? What happened?
"But that's not enough."
"N-n-not enough?" Ash stuttered.
Misty turned her head towards him. "You need to do more to make me fall in love with you, Ash Ketchum. You're game is really weak."
Ash sat up straight and poked with his finger against her arm. "My game isn't weak! I never have a weak game!"
Misty smirked confidently. "Oh really? Because not only did you recite one of my favorite movies, you told me that I was 'sometimes' pretty!"
"You are!"
"Sometimes?!"
"Geez!" Ash grabbed his cap from her hands and put it on his head. "Fine! Then I'll make sure to make you fall for me!"
Misty laughed. "Is that a challenge!"
"You bet it is! I'll make sure to make you mine one day!"
Misty's heart fluttered, but she was a champion at hiding it.
"Good." She said. "Then I'll only have to wait another seven years!"
"Ha! Make that two!"
Ash put his hand out. Misty turned her body and grabbed his hand as if they were preparing for a match.
"You're on!"
"I'll win this match!" Ash said.
"Pfft, as if!"
Pikachu and Togepi stared at the two and sighed. They never really understood their masters. But unlike their Pokémon Ash and Misty both knew that this time it was something much bigger than an usual battle
And it wasn't often that something was.

Survey #384
âwatch your tongue or have it cut from your headâ
Do you post to say happy birthday on other peopleâs walls? Sometimes. Depends on my mood and the person. When was the last time you saw a rainbow? Idr. Whatâs your favorite television commercial? I don't watch TV enough at all to have one. And who has a favorite commercial, anyway? Do you trip a lot? I don't really trip a lot, but kinda fumble over my footing and stray a bit. I'm horrible at walking straight, and it's gotten worse as my legs have. How old is your television? The one in the living room is god knows how old. My parents were still together when they bought it. When did you last talk on the phone with someone? A couple days ago for my appointment with my psychiatrist. Are you currently sleepy? I'm quite convinced I'm permanently tired. Are you hot or cold natured? I am ALWAYS fucking hot, ugh. Do you take any advanced classes? I took mostly Honors classes in school. Do you have weak upper body strength? My body is just weak as a whole. What is the worst insult someone can call you? Emotionally weak. Are you good at sketching? If we're talking meerkats, haha. They're the only complex thing that I can freehand no problem without needing a reference, honestly. Ever play Angry Birds? Nah. I thought the movie was cute, though. Have you ever been to the zoo before? Yeah. Has anyone ever been weirdly obsessed with you? No. Are you afraid someone might steal your identity someday? It's not something I actively worry about at all. Like, you don't want my identity, I promise. Do you have any talents that come naturally? Growing up, adults always told me I was a "gifted" artist and writer. Also that I seem to have an unnaturally strong connection with animals. I've always been that person where a pet's owner is like "omg ____ never lets people do that" and whatnot. Have you ever had plastic surgery before? I haven't. It's funny though, how opposed to it I used to be... Like goddamn, I was such a fucking stupid and honestly judgmental teenager, regarding many things. I look back on her and cringe. Like damn dude, if you have a safe surgical procedure to help you enjoy the body you're stuck with the rest of your life, you go for it, boo. Are you afraid of airplane rides? Not really. Whatâs the best Valentineâs Day gift youâve gotten? There was this one year where Jason had to go to work on Valentine's Day and I was super bummed, yet he still surprised me with a heart-shaped box of chocolates, roses, and a game I really wanted, Heavy Rain. I thought it was the sweetest. What is something you lose often? My phone. ;-; Do you enter a lot of sweepstakes? I don't enter any. Do you consider yourself physically active? *chuckles nervously* Do you have Netflix? Yeah. Favorite salad dressing? That Olive Garden replica you can buy at the store. Do you enjoy dancing? Once upon a time I did. My body could never handle it now. Have you ever considered writing a novel? Many times. Snow or sand? Snow, by twenty thousand miles. It is VERY hard for me to walk through sand, and I also hate hate hate hate HATE the sensation. Do you like sour candy? Heeeeeell yeah man. Have you gotten any injuries lately? If so, what & how? Nothing notable. Are you a clumsy person? Like you would not fucking believe. Last male you talked to in person? I think my primary physician's nurse. Are you thinking about asking anyone out? No. Pink lemonade or regular lemonade? Pink lemonade, for sure. But I love both. Chocolate or strawberry milk? CHOCOLATE. Strawberry milk is disgusting. Have you ever won a contest on the radio? No. Is there a song that reminds you of your best friend? There's quite a few. Has a book ever made you cry? Yes. Do you automatically check your phone when you wake up? Yes, for the time. Do you know anyone who has a pet bunny? Not that I'm aware. What store or website would you most like a gift card for? Rebel's Market. How do you feel about wolves? I adore wolves. Beautiful, majestic creatures with very interesting social dynamics. Name your top 3 favorite musical instruments. Electric guitar, violin, piano. What was the last book(s) you bought at a bookstore? At an actual bookstore, I think it was The Fault In Our Stars, which I never actually read. Do you use Pinterest? Yes. Do you know any sign language? No. Do you have a favorite poem? No. Do you have a dog? No. The one we were pretty much stuck with has a home now. Have you ever read The Little House on the Prairie series? I haven't. Have you ever gone on a service trip to an underprivileged country? No. Have you ever performed in front of more than 100 people? Yes, for dance. When (if ever) was the last time you went to church? Forever ago, I don't even remember the last time. What's a quote you think is really powerful? There's a whole lot. The first one that came to mind was, "An eye for an eye will leave the world blind," which I do believe has great depth in it. Have you ever had to do your laundry at a laundromat? Yes. Are you the oldest person who lives in your household? No. My mom is turning 60 (... I think?) this year. If you have tattoos, how long have you had them? I got my first the day I turned 18. Do you and your dad have similar personalities? We're alike in some ways, imo most notably in that we have NO fucking common sense, embarrassing as that is to admit. We're both kinda slow at understanding things, too. What were the last three things you had to drink? Mountain Lightning, milk, and water. What did your family usually do for Easter when you were a kid? Us three kids all got Easter baskets full of stuff, and we'd go egg-hunting when we were all awake. My little sister Nicole would always wake our parents up in excitement, haha. My parents hid plenty throughout the house, and there was always this one "special" egg that was actually from Mom's childhood and was extremely intricate and beautiful. You basically "won" the hunt if you found it, and it was extremely well-hidden. When you have house guests over, where do they sleep? Historically since living here, my two half-sisters and their spouses (the only people who've stayed over) slept in what is *technically* Mom's room, but for whatever reason this woman still insists on sleeping on the couch in the living room, I guess because she's used to it after all the years she didn't have her own room and bed. Are you emotionally stable? LOLOOLOLOOLLOLOOLOOLOLLOOLOLLLLLLLLLLL Do you still talk to the very first person you had sex with? No. Are you an atheist? No. I don't quite know how to define what I am, but since I believe there's SOME higher power, I don't think it's fitting to call me an atheist. Whatâs the largest bug youâve ever found in your house? Hm... I'm unsure. Probably a male mosquito, 'cuz them bitches are big'ins. Would it annoy you if a stranger called you "sweetie?" If it was a man, I'd be creeped out. Are you into fashion design? Not really. Whatâs the worst thing youâve gone through in the past year? My leg muscles continuing to degrade, honestly. I have to do something about this shit. How did you get your last bruise? I fell when stepping over the stupid dog gate. Have your parents ever forgotten your birthday? Yikes, no. Would you rather have some bacon or beef jerky? Bacon. Do you like your orange juice with lots or no pulp? NONE. Do you wear skinny jeans? Back when I wore jeans, they were the only kind I wore. What projects are you doing now for school? I'm outta school. Whatâs the most number of comments you have on a Facebook picture? What is the picture of? I have no idea. Do you like coconut flavored things? No. Have you ever met a famous author before? No. Do you know anybody who has been raped before? No, thank god. I know someone who might've almost been, though. I don't know what the fucking pig was going to do to her if my sister and I weren't there. Have you ever wished for bigger boobs? No. Being overweight, I just want smaller ones now, haha. Have you ever gone a full day without interacting with another person? I've gone many days without it. How many relationships have you been in that lasted less than a year? Four, if you're counting everyone that had the "boyfriend" title. Where were you going the last time you were on a plane? Home from Illinois. Where were you going the last time you were on a train? I've never been on one. Have you ever been significantly more physically fit than you are now? Holy fuck, yes. You would never guess now that I was perfectly healthy in high school especially, yet I still thought I was kinda fat. It hurts so much to look back on. When growing up, did you parents keep the house very tidy? I mean not excessively, but Mom was pretty dedicated to keeping the house in decent condition. With three kids though, of course the house was somewhat messy with toys and all. When you shop at IKEA, do you always stop to eat a snack/meal in the cafeteria? ... There's a fucking cafeteria in a furniture store? o_o I've never been there before. How many watches do you own? None, save for one in my "treasure box" from when I was a kid. I was SO SO SO obsessed with Finding Nemo that I kept my broken one. I did the same with my horribly aged sneakers, like the soles were coming off and Mom finally made me stop wearing them, ha. Are there any ways in which you greatly differ from everyone else in your family? I do fucking nothing and am useless to society. Should teenagers be allowed to have their cell phones with them in class? Yes, because emergencies happen. I personally think it's best to maybe have your cell phone flipped over on the corner of your desk or something and on vibrate, that way the noise isn't too disruptive and the teacher can see you're not just using it for other purposes. Do you have any gay relatives? Yes. Have you ever had to have a pet put down? Sigh, multiple. Have you unfollowed, deleted, or blocked anyone on social media recently? If so, what was the reason? Not recently. How many cups of coffee do you typically drink per day? None. Do you know what your vocal range is? No, but it's not very broad. Whatâs the biggest financial mistake youâve ever made? I haven't been in this position before. Have you ever been in a relationship where there was a large difference in maturity levels? No. Whatâs the longest youâve ever stayed as a guest at someoneâs house? I wanna say over a month while we were technically homeless. How bad was your acne when you were a teenager? Oh dear, it was rough. Like there were people who had it worse than me, but ya girl was lookin preeeetty rough lmao.

The Dawn Before Sunrise is The Darkest of All
Words:Â 6,1K
Pairing: Yoongi x Reader / You, slight Namjoon x Reader / You, Jungkook
Genre: Fluff, Angst -- back and forth timeline, breakup, Namjoon & Jungkook are muscle bros, cute Jungkook for help
Summary: Small misunderstanding leads you to big mistake. You never thought it will make you lose him. Heâs gone without a goodbye. Itâs a bad bye.
Playlist suggestion: RM ft eAeon - Badbye, RM - Trivia: Love, Heize ft Giri Boy (Prod SUGA) - We Donât Talk Together, Pink Sweat$ - At My Worst
Note: I want to try something different but Iâm not sure if this is a success or failure. Lol. I put small amount of angst in here, hmm maybe a little too much compare to my other writings. But yeah, Iâm trying new things. And happy birthday Yoongi! What Yoongi wants what Yoongi gets!
You sigh. You stand in front of your wardrobe. Thereâs visible contrast between your clothes and his. You can feel the pain on your chest. For the love you let go, you live like in hell for a month. You have no reason to live right after he walks out of your life. No calls, no messages, no news from him. You hate him. But then, you worry something might happen to him more. You grab the sleeve of his long coat.
âWhereâd you go?â
[January]
âStayâ Yoongi whispers with his eyes closed.
âWe have to get readyâ
âTen minutes. Just stay like this for ten minutesâ
You grant his wish and stay on the bed with him. You lie patiently on your back. He sleeps while facing you, hugging you on the waist.
âWhen we arrive at your home, I will barely hold you for the next two daysâ
You caress his face and he leans to you.
âThey know we live together, maybe this time they will let you sleep with me instead of staying in guest roomâ
âNah, your father wonât let meâ
âBut he likes youâ
Yoongi opens his eyes. His sleepiness is gone and leaves him with laziness.
âIt doesnât mean he wants a man to sleep with his daughter under his noseâ
You laugh after hearing Yoongiâs comment. He always has something to say and it hits home. Your father indeed likes Yoongi. They can talk for hours while your mom and you are preparing food. But sleeping together or showing skinship are whole different things for him.
âDid he say something to you?â
âHmmâŠâ
Yoongi pretends to think. You know thereâs something between the two men after your last visit. Both of them seem to want it staying as secret. He supports his head with his right hand and looks at me with serious face.
âYou donât have to knowâ
âUgh. Did you guys plan something fishy?â
Yoongiâs face comes closer to you. Being together for a year doesnât make you less affected by him and his aura. Even he looks so casual and cute after waking up, your heart canât help but to beats faster.
âYes. We plan something fishy like fishing on the sea next month without youâ he whispers while teasing you.
âNo way, Dad wonât leave me behindâ you whisper back to him.
âYes wayâ he says before kissing you.
It starts slow and steady. The ten minutes requested by Yoongi has passed but you donât really care. You have enough time to get ready before 1 night and 2 days trip for Lunar New Year to your parentsâ home. His fingers touch your skin softly under your t-shirt.
âYoongsâ
Yoongi stops kissing you and puts smirk on his face.
âWe should stop, right? We canât let your parents waitingâ he says before kissing your forehead and gets up. You can hear his laugh when he walks away.
âMin Yoongi!â
You stay on your bed, looking at the ceiling. Somehow, you feel more tired after waking up. You may expertise in taking a deep breath now. It helps you holding in your tears. Your phone ringing shatters your scrambling thoughts. You donât want to let your hope up but deep inside, you pray youâll hear something from him in every single call or text anyone made to you.
 âHey, youâre awake?â
âHmm. Any good news?â
You hear nothing for two seconds before he answers. You know he carefully picks his words.
âIâm sorry but I have nothing for that. But Mom tells you to come today. Dad just bought a fresh tuna this morning, randomly. So, weâll have sushi partyâ
âJoon, I-â
âThis is a compulsory, no refusal is accepted. Iâll come at ten so get yourself a good bath and breakfastâ
âOkay, thanks Joonâ
âItâs nothing. See youâ
Youâre not moving from your previous position for another 5 minutes before getting ready. You look at your pictures with Yoongi, smiling widely to each other.
âI miss youâ
On the other side, Namjoon exhale a deep breath. He massages his temple. Honestly, it pains him to see you like this. You look soulless and pale, your smile never reaches your eyes. He keeps you on his watch because heâs worry, because no Yoongi is around for you. He sips on his morning coffee and open the message app. Thereâs one particular message that he keeps coming back to.
 N: Do you love her?
Y: I do. You know I love her more than anything, even my own life
N: Then stop torturing her
N: If you canât make her happy, I will.
 *
Namjoon smiles when he sees you. He hugs you when you arrive at his car. Heâs the one who knows the whole story between Yoongi and you.
âCome on, the tuna is waitingâ he says, making you smile.
You and Namjoon are friends for the last 3 years. Joining the book club at the city library might be the best decision you made that year because you met Joon there. You were amazed at his choice on books and the thoughts after reading it. You always know he is the smartest man youâve met. He surprises you more when he said he also makes music and writes his own lyrics. Thereâs no such thing as a perfect man in real life, itâs only happened in drama. But then Namjoon exists to prove you wrong.
You spent more time with Joon outside the book club. He treated you so well like the gentleman he was. After knowing each other for a year, he often took you to his studio. Just when you thought you have a crush on him, you met Yoongi. Joon were working on collaboration projects with two talented artists, Hoseok and Yoongi. You saw it somewhere in the online community website that the infamous three rappers would do a collaboration series by spoiler from RM. It was definitely huge thing and everyone was waiting with high expectation. As you figured that Joon was RM, you notice that Hoseok was J-Hope and Yoongi was SUGA. After that, you often met them at Joonâs studio and got closer.
âSo, Mom and Dad are trying to be Japanese sushi chefs right now, with Jungkook as their assistant. Basically, they trust Jungkook and his youtubeâs manualâ
You laugh with him. You can imagine the situation of his parentâs house right now.
âHeâll be saying âyou can trust me on thisâ while watching how to slice tuna belly on youtubeâ
âThatâs exactly what happenedâ
You feel thankful to Namjoon. Heâs not giving you the pity looks that youâve got from others. Heâs the first person you ask when Yoongi went missing. But Yoongi is not in Joonâs studio or home. You also come to Hoseokâs place but heâs just as clueless as you.
 *
âWelcome! Welcome!â shouts Jungkook when you step inside the house. You canât help but laugh at him. Mr. & Mrs. Kim come out from the kitchen and strike a pose with Jungkook. They wear similar scarf on their head and black apron on their waist. You clap your hand excitedly and make them feel proud.
âLetâs move to the dining table before Jungkook eats them all. He keeps making excuses that the cutting line is not good enough before dump them to his mouthâ
âMom, I want to give Y/N noona the best sushi onlyâ
âDo you believe that?â asks Joon to you.
âI highly doubt itâ
Your answer makes Jungkook looks at you with his large doe eyes. Before he can protest, Mr. Kim rushes us to go and get ready to eat.
Y/N noona is fine. Looks tired but still fine. Hope youâre here with us.

  [D-30]
You sit lazily on his sofa, seeing he works hard through his back. You can hear him humming to his new song. You smile to yourself, enjoying this Yoongi. When you come to his studio, he always let you to hang around. He will ask your opinion to the music he made, but itâs never love songs. You, once, asked him why he never let you hear any of his love songs. You remember he smiled.
âRemember when I accidentally stand behind you when you write? What did you do then?â
âI tell you to not look because itâs not finished yet and⊠Iâm too shy to let you, the source of my idea watching me workâ
âThat works the same with my love songs. I canât present it to you unfinishedâ
He is working on his mixtape which will be released a month from now. He wants it to be perfect so he does it very carefully.
 âBabeâ
âHm?â
âArenât you hungry?â
âJust order the food and eat here, okay? Iâll be finished soonâ he says. But he has been saying the same thing for an hour and half now.
âOkay, but youâll have to eat with meâ
âI canât, baby. Iâll eat laterâ
You stand and walk to him. He has no intention to get rest even for a minute. You know this is very important for him, but you donât like to see him having lack of sleep. You know heâs been skipping meals on most days but he wonât tell you that.
âStop skipping meals⊠at least when I am here, will you?â you say, almost whispering. You want him to do as you say but you donât want to argue with him. Not when he needs much time to focus.
His fingers stop working. He sighs and turns his attention to me. He looks tired.
âIâll try my best to eat and sleep between the breaks, okay?â
He tries to reassure you and you can only nod.
âI know Joon snitching to you, but heâs just exaggeratingâ
Yoongi stands up and opens his arms for you. You settle yourself on his embrace. Heâs the one who sets you in worry, but heâs also the one who can put you at ease. Yoongi is your person. You never feel this way with other people including your exes. He is special.
âLetâs just go home, then eat and cuddle. I can always overtime start tomorrow anywayâ
You just give him your bright smile as approval and making him showing you his gummy smile. You always think you are perfect for each other.
Sera waves her hand in front of you, pulling you back to the current time. The time with no Yoongi around you, the time that pains you much.
âEat more, okay?â
âI willâ
You take another spoon of rice and continue to eat. Your colleagues resume the conversation. You try to keep up with them and give responses.
âWill Namjoon pick you up again today?â ask Hyojoon.
âNo, heâs busy. Why, you miss him already?â tease you to her. She blushes and it looks cute to you.
âItâs not like thatâ defends her.
You and Sera laugh, satisfied with her reaction.
âItâs fine. Namjoon is attractive man, itâs very normal to put your interest in him. I can promote him to you all day long if you wantâ
âY/N~â
They know about Yoongi and they always try to help you in any way. Sometimes you can feel their pity but they try their best to hide it. You still feel grateful to have them.
âBut honestly Y/N, have you and Namjoon, you know, crush on each other?â asks Sera.
âI think I admire him a lot since early of our friendship. But I donât think we have that romantic feelingâ
âHmm you sure?â asks Hyojoon.
âWhy are you asking? You really like Namjoon, huh?â
âI⊠I find him very attractive but I always feel he looks at you differently soâŠâ
You only smile before responding to her.
âI have Yoongi, donât you remember?â
  [D-15]
Two weeks flies so fast for Yoongi, but feels so long for you. You barely meet him while living under the same roof. He is back when you sleep. Sometimes, you both greet each other in the morning, on the way to work for you and sleep for Yoongi. Other times, you donât even talk. Yoongi often goes back to home looks annoyed. You can see his frustration and sour mood. He tells you to visit him less because he needs his full attention on his work. And now, heâs been sleeping on the studio for 3 days straight. You prepare his clothes and some snack so he can focus on working because you know how precious music for him. You want the best for him even though it may hurt you in the process.
You are a meter away from his studioâs door when itâs suddenly opened. You see Suran going out.
âOh, Y/N!â Suran greets you cheerily, then hugs you.
âHow are you, onni?â you ask. Itâs been long time to see her after Yoongiâs first mixtape. You envy her for being great singer and work together with your boyfriend.
âIâm busy, but not as busy as your manâ
We both laugh as knowing how Yoongi is.
âAre you working for this mixtape too?â
She shakes his head, and then stands closer to me.
âYoongi is working another song for me, it will be on my album. But this is top secret soâŠâ
She pretends to zip her mouth and asks me to do the same. She, then, cups my face and look at me so dearly.
âYouâre so cute. Now, I wonât take your time, go lovey dovey with the lover boyâ
You just laugh then wave at her. You punch the code of his studioâs door and come in.
âDo you leave something behind, noona?â ask Yoongi with bright tones. The tones that you havenât heard for days.
You just stand there with a backpack of Yoongiâs clothes and other bag full of snacks. You try processing the studioâs appearance. You spot his jacket on the chair next to him, blanket on the sofa, cans of beer on the table with lipstick stain on some. To mistaken you for another woman mean youâre not the only girl who knows his password. The password he used to keep as secret.
As Iâm not answering his question, he looks back and finds me standing awkwardly.
âOh, you came? Iâm thinking of coming home early todayâ
You try to be calm and not to dwell on things that might be not happened.
âBaby, are you okay?â
You put both of your luggage down. The tears are pooling on your eyes, threatening to fall. You can see Yoongi walks to you and you unconsciously take one step back. He stops and be on alert.
âIâŠâ
Your voice wonât come out. The tears speak for you instead. Yoongi takes another step closer. You hold out your hand, telling him to stop. You really donât want to hurt him with your harsh words when you canât even think.
âI didnât do anything that would hurt you, please donât doubt meâ
You try to stop the tears and listen to him but youâre too hurt to do that.
âWe have to talk, Iâll answer all of your questions but you wonât listen to anything nowâ
Yoongi knows you very well. You both know youâre holding each other rage hidden to save this relationship. Fire and water. Yoongi is used to cool the hot-headed me down at most times. He puts my fire away when it becomes bigger and brings danger. But this time, it seems different. You can forgive anything but not cheating. You mention this to Yoongi on your early days together.
You look at him in the eyes, tears keep streaming down your face. You can see worry on his face but his jaw tense as if heâs angry. Is it your fault? Arenât you allowed to be jealous?
âIâm goingâ you say walking back to the door.
âY/Nâ
His voice stops your hand from turning the doorâs handle. He sighs and speaks slowly.
âIâm not coming home tonight, or until you want to listen to my side of storyâ
You choose to leave him. You choose to not listen to him. The person who understands you the most, who loves you the most. You know youâll regret it once you clear your head but your ego is too big to realize. Youâre out of his studio without looking back.
You stare blankly at your window. The lights from the others buildings and houses feel so far today. You wonder, is Yoongi in one of them? Is he okay? Is he⊠happy? Single tear escapes your eye. You donât want to give up on him, you donât want to let him go. But if letting him away from you brings him happiness then you have no other options.
You sigh. Your phone buzz, a message from Jungkook comes.
Noona, hyung is coming back
(Heize Returns with âWe Donât Talk Togetherâ Produced by SUGA and Featuring Giri Boy)
You open the news link as fast as you can. You read the whole article in seconds.
âYouâre alive. Youâre okay. Thanks Godâ
Your emotion is coming out at once. The relief, happiness, sadness, rage, and other unidentified emotions are becoming one. Your mental canât bear all of them so youâre breaking down. Youâre crying hard. Itâs even harder than the day you fail university exam in your motherâs arms.
âWhy donât you say anything? At least read my messages. Iâm worried to death, Yoongiâ
You open the messages you sent to him. All of them are left unread, even until now. The world may not know what happened, but Yoongi has been missing from your world, from your life.
You keep crying until you tired and sleep on the sofa. You donât know that the number 1 on your message has gone. Yoongi read all of your message while you are sleeping.
Namjoonâs thumb hovers over the call button. He wants to check Y/Nâs condition after seeing the news. Heize is a big singer in the industry so itâs impossible to Y/N not knowing this. Part of him feels guilty for being greedy over her, but he just hate to see her being like this. He searches another name on his contact and dial the number.
âLetâs meetâ
âYeah, I have something to talk tooâ
âWhere do you want to meet, Yoongi?â
Jungkook slams the door open. He looks at her brother with rage. How can his brother pretend to not knowing anything about Yoongiâs whereabout to Y/N when he knows everything. As he lives together with his brother for a year now, he becomes close to his friends. He knows his brother treats Y/N differently but he never think of another reason than Y/N is the only woman on their group. Heâs sure his brother has another motive now. Is Namjoon crushing on Y/N? Is he the one who makes them separated? How can he stand seeing Y/N hurt like that? Jungkook keeps trying to contact Yoongiâs phone but it always fails.
âExplain to me, no excusesâ
âOkay, but you need to calm down and sitâ
Namjoon take a deep breath before explaining everything to his little brother. Jungkook respects him a lot as brother and musician, but he also see Yoongi as his mentor in music.
âY/N and Yoongi got into big fight two weeks before D-2 was released. Yoongi stressed about the album, thought fight wasnât really necessary. But Y/N thought Yoongi didnât care about her and choose to shut her out from his lifeâ
Jungkook listens intently, he doesnât want to miss anything.
âIt was just misunderstanding but it was critical for their relationship. Suran explained it to Y/N as she was the key of the fight but at that time Yoongi has gone missing.â
âBut I work in the same industry, I know heâs there. I get his new number from the company. He comes to see Y/N from a far sometimes. But I donât want to be involved further in their relationshipâ
âI loved Y/N, I did. I always tried to impress her, to make her laugh. But that was before she met Yoongi. The time I see twinkle in her eyes when she saw Yoongi, I knew the game is overâ
âIs it really over, hyung?â
âI thought it would. I promised myself to be her bestfriend wherever she needs me. But when Yoongi gone and seeing her world broke apart, I couldnât just sit and watch herâ
Jungkook remembers the last song his brother release 6 months ago. The love song named Trivia: Love. The project collaboration with Hoseok and Yoongi. He still loves her. The feeling doesnât stop in the past. Itâs growing without his brother knowing.
Iâm just human. You erode all my corners and make me into love.
Though the distance between I and U is long
F*** JKLMNOPQRST
I crossed all the letters and reached you
Look, mine and yours also sound the same
Though that doesnât make me you,
Iâd like to be a part of your book
Iâd like to get involved in your novel
as your lover
âWhy is my genius brother becoming an idiot?â ask Jungkook.
Namjoon just laughs. He thanks Jungkook in his head as heâs no longer mad. To be honest, Jungkook is his biggest supporter to keep doing music. If Jungkook turns his back to him, he thinks he canât go far.
âIâll talk to Yoongi. Iâll make sure he gives what Y/N deserve to getâ
*
Yoongi sits in the meeting room with Heize, Giri Boy and marketing team members. They monitor the public response after the collaboration articles are out. One screen shows the comments on news portal and the other shows view numbers and live comments on the music video. The feedback is super positive and it brings relief to the team. Yoongi feels proud to himself. Thereâs one particular person he wants to share this feeling right now. Someone important in his life that is even more important than the life itself.
âThe mixtape is getting the attention too, thatâs greatâ says the head of marketing team. Yoongi offers them his shy smile.
âExposure is indeed great, but I hope they like the musicâ
âIâm sure they will. This is Min SUGA PD weâre talking aboutâ says Heize that supported by others.
âIf this keeps going up, then we should really make another projectâ adds the manager.
âOkay. Letâs wrap it up now and schedule the team dinner on the next Fridayâ
The meeting is dismissed and Yoongi rushes to go to somewhere. He prepares himself for the worst but he wonât give up. He canât give up. He will hold her hand until the end. He will run after her. He wonât do the same mistake. He arrives at the park not far from his old studio. Namjoon is there, waiting for him. Namjoon is his bestfriend but he is also Y/Nâs. He will understand if Namjoon wants to beat him to death.
âJoonâ
âYoongsâ
âIâm sorry Iâm being a jerk this past month, but I⊠I canât let her go. I canât give her to youâ
âI knowâ
[D-Day]
You keep monitoring Yoongiâs agency updates for his mixtape. Today, the countdown is supposed to be D-2. Two days before you can finally meet Yoongi and talk about everthing. You know your close friends are aware that something happened between you and Yoongi but you think it will be okay soon. You sleep less, hoping to see him coming through the door. You endlessly open and close your phone, waiting for his text or call.
You get new notification, informing the newest mixtape is out now. Itâs quite a surprise but it means good news. You can meet Yoongi sooner than you expect. Out of happiness, you try to call him. This will be the first call after the fight, after two weeks.
âPlease answer the callâ
âThe number you are calling-â
You keep trying to call him but you keep connected to his mailbox. You send some messages but no response. You try, and then you wait. You keep doing it, but you canât reach him. You grab you purse and leave the home.
You stand in front of his studio. The bad memories come back at you. You push the pass code slowly, thinking Yoongi is inside. Thinking that you can finally meet him makes you nervous. The door is open and you rush yourself to go in. But no oneâs there. No Yoongi, not even his equipment. Heâs gone.
Yoongi arrives at the park not far from his old studio.
I canât give her to youâ
âI knowâ
âI really want to punch you when I see your text, but I donât want to start a game that I know Iâm going to lose. I shouldâve gone to the gym with you and Hoseok back thenâ
Namjoon shakes his head and smile.
âThe feeling is mutual. I stop myself from beating you up because I donât want her to hate me more than she hates youâ
They both laugh. They are brother after all.
âThank you for being there for her. Iâm ashamed to admit this but I donât deserve her. I see how sheâs not being herself and it pains meâ
âSheâs not giving up on youâ
âI know and thatâs why I want to come back with a better version of me. So I can tell people that I deserve her, I can give her happinessâ
âYou include me in that âpeopleâ category?â Namjoon asks.
âNumber 1 on the listâ Yoongi answers with laugh.
Both of them sit in the silence. Too many things come across their minds. This will be the closure for Namjoonâs unrequited love, while new beginning for Yoongi.
âJust donât do the same mistake, Yoongs. Iâll take her from you if this shit happens in the future and you, youâll be the one who canât see and hear anything from herâ
âI swear I wonât repeat the same mistake so you can go and fall in love with someone else, not mineâ
*
You open your eyes. The sun has risen so high to remind you another day has come. You thank God when realize that today is Saturday. You can avoid people from your workplace curiosity about your puffy eyes. You look at your phone screen. You really want to call him again but youâre afraid of the failure this time. You turn it on and open the lock. Almost every one you know sends you message but nothing from him. You have no energy to cry, so you just put it back and leave to the bathroom.
An hour later, you sit on your sofa again with you light lunch. You remember Namjoon always reminds you that whatever happens you have to stuff your mouth with food even when you donât want to. You donât aware that your phone continuously vibrates.
âJungkook?â
âNoona, youâre home?â
âYeah. Whats wrong? Are you⊠are you running?â you ask. Jungkook laugh and you hear his rush steps.
âNoona, meet me in front of your apartment. Hurry up! We donât have much timeâ
âHey, JK. If itâs one of your pranks I wonât fall for itâ
âNoooo. I donât do pranks again. Please believe me and come downâ
You really have no energy to do anything yet Jungkook asking you to go out. You grab the black cardigan and layer it on your white t-shirt. Itâs ends of June already but you always feel cold. Your wear glasses to hide your eyes. You bring your small bag and phone to meet Jungkook. If itâs nothing important, you swear you will give him a long speech. No more âIâll forgive you because youâre cuteâ again.
He brings you to the brunch café nearby. The café you used to visit with Yoongi. The last visit must be three months ago, when everything was still okay.
âWhy weâre here?â you ask Jungkook who focuses on menu book. He doesnât answer your question but calling the waiter. He orders 5 main dishes with 1 dessert.
âI want to try the dishes you recommend to meâ
âAll of them?â
âYes, I can eat them all in one sitting. Besides, I have you here, so I have no worry on my plateâ
âIâve had my lunchâ you say. Jungkook rises an eyebrow.
âAre you considering cereal with milk as your lunch? Oh please, noona. As the cereal mania, Iâm offendedâ
You only laugh because youâve got caught. You indeed just eat cereal for living these days.
Jungkook keeps babbling and you can only smile. You listen to his story and it does help to enlighten you. The food is coming one by one. When the last plate is placed, he cocks his head and look at you with his sparkling deer eyes. He asks me to eat with him and not to only watch him eating.
âDid you listen to the new song?â he asks. You stop for a while before looking at him.
âI slept early last night and woke up lateâ
âWould you listen to it?â he asks carefully.
You donât answer his question and play with the food. Youâre not sure if itâs the best choice to do.
âWould you give it a chance, noona?â
He begs to you with his eyes. He holds your hand, giving you strength to go on.
âIâll be here. Iâll help you with anythingâ
Jungkook gives his phone and airpods to me. He encourages me to listen to it while heâs here with me. I take few deep breaths before click the play button.
Iâm sorry, was I too harsh?
Iâm way too fearless
I donât know, I donât know
Maybe I thought youâd comfort me
So I played hard to get
But when youâre not here
Everything crashes down
So with a blank face
I built a house
My footsteps are getting heavier
I canât walk anymore
I canât just let you go like this
But I canât open my mouth
You listen to his melody. You listen to his lyrics. His song speaks to you. The key in relationship is communication but both you and Yoongi have failed. You two try to be considerate for the other person but it only pushes you away farther from each other. You look up at Jungkook, he gives you reassuring smile.
*
Youâre back to the scariest place for you. His studio. Jungkook holds your shoulder from the back. You donât realize that you are trembling. Your body remember the pain and it scares you.
âEverything will be okayâ chants Jungkook repeatedly to make you believe him.
Your hand is still trembling and puts the code one by one. You remember what Suran tolds you.
âWe all know Yoongi is deeply in love with you so we kind of guessing his password. Then he officially tells everyone who is in the mixtape project including me for easy access. Iâm sorry Y/N, I really amâ
The door is open. Jungkook gives you another soft pat, supports you from behind. You take a step inside. You hear low sound of music. You can smell very familiar scent filling the room. All the equipment and decorations back to the room. You can see a figure sits on the chair looking at the monitor. You hold your breath. Youâre scared that all of this is just your sweet dream.
âY-Yoongiâ
The man turns around. He smiles. Yoongi looks paler than the last time you saw him. His face looks thinner, dark circles appear more visible than before. He stands and walks to you.
âYou came?â
âYouâre here. Youâre really hereâ
âIâm here. I will never leave againâ
You really donât want to cry. Youâre tired for all the crying you did these months. He opens his arms widely, ready to embrace you again. He regrets to ever think leaving you will make you happier. He is in deep resentment to think he can live normally without you beside him.
âIâm sorryâ says Yoongi softly. You hug him tight, youâre afraid he will disappear to thin air.
âNo, Iâm sorryâ
Yoongi lifts my face to look at him.
âIt takes me too long to be confident in being your boyfriend. I punish myself for being a fool to hurt you like that. But I just hurt you moreâ
âI shouldnât doubt you that day. I canât bear myself with the thought of losing youâ
âIâm sorry, Y/N, I shouldâve told you everything. Do you forgive me?â
You nod and hug him again.
âWe make mistake, but we learn from it. We will make a new beginning and be together foreverâ
*
Yoongi fills you in for the days he absents from your life. How he tried to focus on finishing the mixtape album, how he gave all the best that he can for Heize new song, how he barely lived without you. You donât miss the chance to punch his arms or chest whenever you think heâs an idiot. He takes it all, he thinks he deserves more than just light punch from you.
âHonestly, Iâm afraid that you wonât take me back. That you start to think Joon is better than meâ
âHey!â you slap his chest. He laughs.
âI trust you but I donât trust Joon. He had crush on you before you meet me, you know. If we didnât meet, maybe he is the best person for you to be withâ
âItâs all in the past, right? I hope Joon meet someone who loves him sincerelyâ
Yoongi pulls you to him, pastes your back to his chest. He hugs you tight and doesnât answer your question. He is actually very scared to lose Y/N to his bestfriend. He doesnât want you to know that Namjoon is still crushing on you. He, once, thinks that Namjoon loves you as much as he does.
He kisses your temple every time you stop talking. You find it cute and crave him more. You turn your head to him and kiss him on the lips. He just smiles.
âI miss youâ
âI miss you moreâ
âNot sure about that. I miss you more than you miss meâ
You love this Yoongi. No, you just love Yoongi and being with Yoongi, whatever side or color of him he shows to you.
âCan I meet your parents tomorrow?â
âMy parents? Why?â
You fully turn your body to him. You feel nervous and nausea waiting for him answer. You are the fire and he is the water. When you easily pop small tantrums, Yoongi is very calm and gives you another insight.
âI need to talk to them, itâs very importantâ
âShould I, I donât know, prepare something or anything?â
âNo. Your presence is enoughâ
*
You finally sleep in peace. No more nightmares or waking up in the middle of the nights. You sleep so comfortably with Yoongi beside you. Both of you made a promise last night, to communicate better so you can understand each other better too. You promise to yourself, to not give in to your negative thoughts. You leave Yoongi who sleep soundly to make breakfast.
You inform your parents about your arrival. Your mom and dad are home, waiting for you and Yoongi. You can see Yoongi is more nervous than usual. You think that he may still blame himself and feel guilty to your parents. As much as your parents love you and be very protective, they wonât interfere your love live. They fully give the freedom to you.
You sit with Yoongi in front of your father after settling the drinks for the four of you. Your mother only smiles, while your father gives his scary face. Yoongi sit politely with his two hands upon his knees.
âHave you thought about it?â asks your father.
âYes, sirâ
You look back and forth between Yoongi and your father. This is the secret, the one that you asked Yoongi before. Thereâs indeed something between the men that you donât know. You steal a glance to your mom, asking for the hint. Seems like youâre the only person who clueless.
âThen?â
âPlease give your daughterâs hands to me. I may make mistake and being stupid but I will make her happy as long as she stays with meâ
Your eyes go wide. You open your mouth just to close it again. You have so many things to say yet you canât say anything. Your father smiles, half smirking, to Yoongi.
âTake you long enough, sonâ

Mononokean: How long is your high school's winter break?
Ashiya: It's about two weeks.
Mononokean: In other words, the search for Aoi will conclude at the end of winter break, right?
Page 5
Ashiya: Yeah...
Ashiya: Even if we don't have any results, it will be the end of the search for Aoi-san...
That's the promise we made with the Princess.
Ashiya: But...
Ashiya: I want to meet Aoi-san, too.
Ashiya: If I meet them, I'd like to ask about Sakae...
(Like, why they decided to make a human who killed demons an unofficial employee of the Mononokean, or...)
(If they were there on November 2nd when Sakae died, what happened that day...)
Page 6
Ashiya: That's why,
Ashiya: I'll believe that Aoi-san is alive, and go search for him.
Ashiya: We'll find him, just watch!
Page 7
Abeno: .......
Page 8
Teacher: And that's all your tips for winter break.
Teacher: This is a precious vacation for your high school life.
Your homework is to have fun in moderation.
Teacher: I'm going to buy my daughter a bicycle, so I'll be absorbed in biking with my daughter... It'll be great!
So class, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Ashiya: Abeno-san, homeroom is over.
Fusshi: Ashiyaaan, Abenoon!
Fusshi: Let's hang out this winter break!
Saga: The four of us can visit the shrine together.
Ashiya: Sorry... We have work this break.
Fusshi: I see. Good luck with woork!
(Fusshi: Merikuri!)
(Saga: Happy New Year.)
(Ashiya: Merry Christmas and have a happy new year!)
(Zenko: Have a happy new year.)
(Ashiya: Happy new year.)
Page 9
Ashiya: Alright then. Tomorrow, winter break will start.
Ashiya: Please link the Mononokean to the entryway of my house at nine o'clock.
I'll be prepared at the door ten minutes prior.
Ashiya: Let's do our best searching for Aoi-san tomorrow!
Page 10
Ashiya: Seeya, Abeno-san! Until tomorrow! (Bye~)
Abeno: Wait.
Abeno: You mean today, right?
Ashiya: Eh?
Abeno: Winter break really begins as soon as homeroom is over... right?
Ashiya: Today...
Ashiya: I had plans to get a Christmas cake on the way home...
Page 11
Abeno: Work takes priority. (Let's go.)
Ashiya: Hello, Mom?! Due to some urgent business, I won't be able to pick up the cake, so please pick it up instead!
Abeno: Mononokean, come.
Mononokean: Have a safe journey!
Page 12
Ashiya: Huh?
Ashiya: The Justice didn't come to meet me...
Ashiya: Damn... If the Justice isn't there, I'm not allowed to enter the Underworld.
Abeno: This isn't the Underworld, so you're free to enter.
Ashiya: ...Huh? Then, are we in the Mundane world?
Weren't we supposed to go to the forest today?
Abeno: We are in the forest. (That's why the Justice doesn't need to come.)
Page 13
Abeno: This is Aoi's house, which was build inside the forest...
Abeno: In other words, it's the Mononokean.
(The... Mono... nokean?)
Page 14
Ashiya: (Wh!?) The Mononokean?!
Ashiya: This is the main body?!
Abeno: This is where our clients from the Underworld come in from.
Ashiya: Huh...
Abeno: It's within the Princess's divine protection, so the plague plant and its seed bugs are repelled and can't infect anyone.
Ashiya: It's true, I can't see any bugs flying around or any plague plants...
Mononokean: With my power, I can remove them from the nearby vicinity.
Abeno: However, everything beyond here is out of the barrier's range.
Abeno: As I told you before, Â you won't be able to sense a demon's aura if they've been infected.
I also won't be able to call the Mononokean.
Page 15
Abeno: From here on, we'll be searching outside the barrier for Aoi.
Abeno: The situation puts their chance of being alive at practically zero, but
If they survived, and they haven't returned to the Underworld or the Mononokean, they should still be within the forest.
Abeno: Don't overlook even the slightest trace.
If you find anything at all, let me know immediately.
Ashiya: Roger!
(This is the first and final search for Aoi-san...)
Page 16
Ashiya: Even if there's a 0% chance, I have faith! If the two of us are searching for them, the odds of finding something double!
Ashiya: We'll definitely find Aoi-san!
Abeno: Let's go, Ashiya.
Ashiya: Yes!
Ashiya: We're heading out!
Page 17
Ashiya: AOI-SAAAN!!
Ashiya: AOI-SAN!
Ashiya: Are you there!?!
Abeno: (This is unbearable... But I guess it is useful to have a human megaphone on a search like this...)
(Abeno: It's loud, though...)
Ashiya: Ao...
Page 18
Ashiya: Abeno-san, take a look at this. There's an 'x' mark on this tree.
Abeno: Ah?
Abeno: Yeah... I made that as a benchmark so I wouldn't get lost in the forest long ago.
(Ashiya: So it's a guidepost.)
Ashiya: Aoi-saaan! If you're there, please respond!
I'm an employee of the Mononokean! I'm Ashiya. It's good to meet you!
Ashiya: Abeno-san and I have come to look for you!
Ashiya: .....
Ashiya: Mmm... I don't hear anything right now.
Abeno: We'll be leaving the barrier in a moment.
Ashiya: !
Ashiya: Hmm... A sweet smell. Isn't this...
Page 19
Ashiya: (The scent of the blooms of a plague plant.)
Ashiya: !?
Page 20
Abeno: From here on is outside the barrier's range.
Aoi should be here somewhere.
Page 22
Ashiya: Plague plants are growing wildly all over the place.
Ashiya: And there are tons of insects attracted to the scent of the blossoms...
(Aoi-san is alive in this place...)
(They must be here, in this dangerous land that's covered in curses...)
Page 23
Ashiya: What is it?
Abeno: Try looking at the roots of the plague plant.
Ashiya: The roots...?
Abeno: It doesn't look like there's anything here, right?
Ashiya: Yeah... Nothing that catches my eye.
Page 24
Abeno: In the roots are where Aoi's remains should be.
Abeno: I told you those who are possessed by the parasite shrub grow into large trees, but...
Well, just in case, check the roots of the plague plants, too.
Ashiya: ...
Ashiya: ...Okay.
[Even though we believe that they're alive...
We won't be able to search properly if we avert our eyes from the possibility of their death.]
Abeno: I want to search this whole area today as a start.
If you notice something, no matter how trivial, report it to me.
Ashiya: Yes...
Abeno: What a listless answer. (Where's your energy?)
Ashiya: Beginning the search! FIGHT!!
Page 25
Ashiya: Aoi-san!! Are you here?!
It's nice to meet you! I'm Ashiya, an employee of the Mononokean!
Ashiya: Before I started my second year at Modoribashi High School, a demon named Fuzzy attached himself to me, and it hurt, so I went to Abeno-san to get an exorcism! I ended up with a million yen bill, so I'm working here to pay off my debt!
AOI-SAN! PLEASE FORGIVE MY DEBT!
Abeno: Your message is changing, y'know.
Ashiya: Aoi-san, are you here!?
Page 26
Ashiya: .....?!
[Could this perhaps... be...?!]
Ashiya: A cat's...
Tail...?
Page 27
Abeno: ...Ah?
Ashiya: Abeno-san, this...
Page 28
Demon: !?
Abeno&Ashiya: !?
Ashiya: ...Hm?!
Ashiya: GYAAAH?! A huge fuzzy caterpillar!!
Page 29
Abeno: Ashiya-kun?
Ashiya: I'm sorry!!! (Caterpillar!! Shoo!!)
Ashiya: Ow!
Ashiya: The hair of that caterpillar pricked me... It stings...
Abeno: (Geez.) There's some disinfectant in the medicine box, so we'll put that on...! (Though I don't know how effective it is for humans...!)
Ashiya: Okay...
Ashiya: .....
Page 30
Ashiya: (I thought it was Aoi's remains...)
Ashiya: (That was bad for my heart... (I was really flustered...))
(Abeno: Give me your hand.)
(Ashiya: Yes...)
Ashiya: (I was terrified and I don't even know Aoi-san personally...
So what Abeno-san felt must not even compare...)
(Abeno-san doesn't tend to show his emotions, but...)
Abeno: ?
Abeno: Sterilization complete. Resume the search.)
(Ashiya: Thank you for treating me!)
[Even though he's like that...]
Page 31
[If he's able to reunite with Aoi-san,
[Will he show a happy smile?]
(Ashiya: Aoi-saaan!)
(Ashiya: Abeno-san! There, deep in the brush! I saw a black shadow moving!)
(Abeno: It's another bug, huh...)
[If we end up finding Aoi's remains,]
[Will he be unable to stop his tears?]
Page 32
Ashiya: !
Page 33
Ashiya: Abeno-san? Is this place next to the ocean?
Ashiya: Just now, there was the sound of waves from that direction, right?
Abeno: ...
(Ashiya: ...Huh?)
Page 34
Abeno: Ashiya.
Guide me toward where you heard that sound.
Ashiya: Okay! It's through this thicket.
Ashiya: In this direction...
Ashiya: !?
Page 35
Ashiya: ...Huh?
Ashiya: There's no ocean anywhere, not even a puddle. (I don't hear anything, either...)
Abeno: As I thought, we're back where we started.
Ashiya: Huh?
Abeno: I looked at that tree's mark before we went through the thicket.
Ashiya: That's weird? When did we end up making a U-turn?
Page 36
Abeno: We've definitely been going straight.
Ashiya: !
Abeno: But it seems we've come back to where we started.
Ashiya: Where we started...?
Ashiya: Uwaah, it's true!! Are we in an infinite loop!? What are we going to do?!
Abeno: I wonder.
Page 37
Abeno: Back when I came here on my own to find Aoi,
The same phenomenon happened.
Abeno: Even if I went somewhere else, I'd end up walking back where I started. I tried to get around it, but it was the same no matter what.
Somehow, there's something here to stop us from heading deeper into the forest.
Ashiya: Then, Aoi's movement should have been hampered, too!
Ashiya: Aoi-san went into the forest,
Since it was outside of the barrier, and we're stopped from going into the forest, they have to be in the area!
Abeno: Yeah...
Page 38
Abeno: That's if their movement was actually stopped.
Abeno: Haa...
Abeno: The Underworld doesn't have an ocean, and I didn't hear any waves.
Could you have mistaken the sound of the wind?
Ashiya: If you say it like that... I guess it's possible...
Ashiya: I'm sorry...
Page 39
Ashiya: On the very first day of the search, I mistook that fuzzy caterpillar for a cat's tail, and I'm hearing the sounds of waves...
Ashiya: I've been holding back the search and... I've let you down...
Abeno: ...
Abeno: ...Haa...
Abeno: Idiot.
Ashiya: Sorry...
Abeno: Compared to the day where I didn't come across anything at all, today is better.
Page 40
Abeno: The guy who boasted that "We'll definitely find them!" shouldn't get disheartened this easily.
Abeno: We're going to steadily search like today, over and over again during winter break.
I'd be at a loss if we didn't find a single clue, so even a caterpillar is exciting.
Page 41
Abeno: At least try to keep your mood up, you easily discouraged five year old.
Ashiya: Wha!? (Easily discouraged?!)
Abeno: Are you just going to keep standing there? Do your job, easily discouraged caterpillar mishearing five year old.
(Ashiya: The nickname got extended!)
Abeno: Besides, it's not like you've only just started being a hindrance during our work, right?
I'm so accustomed to your mistakes that I don't even notice them anymore.
Ashiya: ......
Abeno: Now matter how much you mess up, you'll show me an even bigger mistake later.
Easily discouraged caterpillar mishearing garbage five year old boy.
Ashiya: ...!!
Page 42
Ashiya: AOI-SAAAN! WHERE ARE YOU!!
Ashiya: He's an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed blond-haired excessively handsome guy!! Abeno-san is always calling me such horrible names!! Hurry up and come out!! Shouldn't the second master of the Mononokean stop treating his employees this outrageously?!! Even though we're both employees, he's so much nicer to Fuzzy!!!
Abeno: Hairball is much quieter than this roaring demon, for one.
Ashiya: Who's a roaring demon?!
Abeno: How'd you even hear my mumbling? You roaring demon with long ears.
Ashiya: Aoi-san!! Do you hear Abeno-san!!

Wonât Get Fooled Again (Part 3)
A/N: I would like to apologize for the 3rd Person POV that dominate this chapter. I feel to get the whole story you must know everything you can and sometimes that includes when Percy is not present. I am sorry in advanced. But please enjoy the few moments with her and let me know if I need to figure a better way to write said moments. Also, Tumblr readers, would you prefer I change Persephone to (Y/N)? I know I enjoy those fanfics much better on Tumblr. Please let me know! Thanks, Zoe.
MASTERLIST
PREVIOUS CHAPTER
3rd Person POV at Aimee and Emilyâs House
As Agent Jennifer Jareau gives her press statement, young mom Aimee is busy stocking the fridge while her daughter draws at the table. Though she is busying herself, Aimee is listening to what the agent says. The details of the package and label it would have. Her daughter, Emily, asks when her dad will be home. Aimee tells her soon and that he needs to clean up the beach home for the next renters. Aimee asks Emily to unpack her suitcase.

3rd Person POV at U.S. Penitentiary
Jason sits down.
âYou were more ruthless than I expected. If you hadnât pushed that button, you mightâve had a chance at parole someday.â Gideon tells Bale.
âYeah. You know, Iâve thought a lot about that day, and thereâs one thing I still canât understand. You trusted me. Why?â Bale asks.
âI never trusted you.â Gideon counters.
âYou listened to me.â Bale responds just as quick.
âI made an error.â Gideon tells him.
âI calculated you wouldnât do it, and you did. Whatever you think, Iâm gonna walk outta here, and you never will.â
âHereâs what I think.â Bale starts.
âSending those agents into that warehouse, it just doesnât make sense. I mean, Iâve read your books. I had all those things, what did you call it? Um⊠a homicidal triad. I even came from a broken family, classic sociopath, so when I had the chance to kill six agents plus a hostage, I mean, just because I gave myself up doesnât mean that I was finished with those people. I still had the remote. You...you shouldâve known that. And the emotional release I would feel by pressing that button...well, that was just a little too overwhelming to pass up. Why didnât you search me before sending those agents in? Why didnât you do your job, Agent Gideon?â
Bale smirks and turns away.

3rd Person POV at Aimee and Emilyâs House
âMommy, thereâs a present for you.â Emily calls out.
âA present? What does it look like?â Aimee asks back.
âItâs brown with blue letters. Can I bring it to you?â the little girls asks.
The look of horror washes over Aimeeâs features as she realizes it was the very same package as the one the blonde lady had just spoken about. Aimee screams out a âNO!â as she runs to the door where her baby girl is standing with the package in hand. Aimee calls the police then goes to Emily, who is now crying. She puts her hands under the package to help her support it. It was getting heavy and if Emily dropped it the poor girl would not survive. When the police show up Aimee tells her daughter to keep holding on. Aaron Hotchner, who just arrived on the scene tells the ATF men to get the mother out of there and tells the person he is on the phone with to avoid bringing armed officers. They do not want to scare the little girl. As the ATF workers approach the mother and daughter, Emily complains about the package being heavy again and Aimee tells her to keep holding on and that she is doing a good job. Tracy, the ATF worker, assures the girl that it will only be a few more minutes as he slides a table-like instrument under their hands. When Emily makes another remark about the weight of the package her mother assures her she can hold on. Tracy asks Aimee to step back. Of course, she is reluctant. He asks for her trust and tells Emily not to move. As Tracy reassures, Aimee does too. Only a few more seconds. Everyone holds their breath as Aimee removes her hands and the table is slowly lifted to under the package. They were safe. Aimee grabs Emily and they are ushered away.

Persephone Chaseâs POV
While Hotch went to the house Elle and I stayed back at the station and continued to look through evidence. It didnât seem too long before Hotch came back. He was on the phone with Gideon. As Hotch approached Elle and I told him of some new information we had found.
âWe might have something. Barbara Keller was having trouble insuring some coins she bought.â Elle starts.
âThe insurance company thought they might be fake.â I finished.
âSo the insurance companyâs blowing up annoying clients?â Hotch asks, confused.
âWhat if someone sold her the fake coins? Sheâs on to him...he shuts her up.â Elle responds.
âWere these coins valuable enough to kill over?â Hotch asks another question.
âShe told the insurance company she thought they might be worth $12,000.â I tell him.
âAll right. Do you two have any idea who sold her the coins?â Hotch questions.
âNo, but she had an appointment with a coin dealer scheduled, Iâm guessing to challenge the insurance companyâs appraisal.â Elle answers. âA guy named David Walker.â I add.
âSo maybe he can help us figure out who sold her the coins.â Hotch says.

3rd Person at U.S. Penitentiary
Spencer Reid makes a phone call to Penelope Garcia for information on Bale and who he may have been in contact with.
âOffice of supreme genius puzzle solver. Do you have a riddle for me?â Garcia greeted.
âI found out Bale has been accessing the internet by getting around a firewall thatâs set up on a prison library computer. The guy even has an email address.â Reid explains walking through the prison.
âWow. Sneaky bastard.â Garcia responds.
âYeah. Heâs headed to the library right now, maybe to contact the unsub. Now, is there a way to possibly monitor his keystrokes while heâs online?â Spencer asks.
âI can send him a virus, but heâll have to open the email for it to work.â Garcia explains.
âLetâs do it.â Spencer answers.
âWhat do you want in the subject line?â she asks.
âHm, letâs think.â he responds.
âSomething thatâll make him open it.â she explains.
âYeah. Heâs impotent, something thatâll make him feel in control.â Reid answers.
âI got something.â the woman says with a wicked smile growing across her features.
And she did. When Bale went to the computer to check his inbox he had an all too interesting email waiting for him. What man could pass up a hot willing woman who is looking for an inmate.
âYou got this guyâs number, heâs visited six porn sites in the past half hour.â Garcia informs Reid.
âAnything else?â he asks.
âHold on. Heâs posting to a message board. Naughtyhobbies.net. Looks like some sort of website for bomb enthusiasts. âTo all my friends out there, beware, they are onto you.â she read.
âWe need the names of everyone whoâs been on that message board in the past month.â Reid tells her.
She begins working her magic. Reid then calls Gideon. He tells him all he and Garcia have been able to find while going through Baleâs computer. He says that the people he had been talking to werenât from Palm Beach. Gideon asks about the occupations. Reid tells him it wasnât required so most donât have it listed. Gideon says the unsub would fill it in because of the pride in his work. Reid agrees. He then lists off the known occupations. Gideon stops him when he mentions an antiquities dealer. Why?
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
Persephone Chaseâs POV
Elle and I made our way to the Walker residence. When we got there we met up with Davidâs wife.
âPersonally, I couldnât think of anything more boring than coins and old papers.â she says.
âAre you two single?â she asks us.
âYes.â we both reply.
âI have a word of advice. Donât marry the first guy that proposes.â she says.
âI wanted a pool table back there, but David insisted on making it his workshop.â
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
3rd Person at Palm Beach Police Station
Aaron Hotchner was at the station waiting for agents Chase and Greenaway to get back to him about the meeting with David Walker when he got a phone call from Reid. He is given a name. David Walker, a potential suspect. He stops writing when he realizes that two of his agents are currently at Walkerâs residence and donât know he is who they are looking for.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
Persephone Chaseâs POV
We were about halfway to the garage when Elleâs phone began ringing and a car was starting up.
âOh whatâs he up to now?â Mrs. Walker asks aloud.
âIt sounds like a car.â Elle says.
âI hope heâs not committing suicide.â Mrs. Walker says.
I wonât be able to collect life insurance.â
Elle answers her phone and I lean in to hear.
âElle, itâs him.â Hotch says.
âItâs Walker.â
Just as Hotch finishes, the garage door opens. Davidâs car comes speeding out.
âGET OUT OF THE WAY!â Elle screams, moving and taking me with her.
When I look up from where I am on the ground I see him hit his wife. Holy shit, he hit his poor wife. Only stopping to get her off his car. Elle and I collect ourselves and ready our guns to shoot at the car. He speeds off without a single hit to it. It was only a few minutes later that Hotch, The EMTs, and the police showed up. I was still kind of shaken from seeing Mrs. Walker get hit and really needed Spencer but he was at the prison with Bale.
âYou two okay?â Hotch asks.
âIâll be okay.â I answer.
âYeah, Iâm all right. But Mrs. WalkerâŠâElle starts.
âYeah. Guyâs a real peach.â Hotch responds.
âMorrisonâs got a county-wide search out for the car, uniforms are gonna try to find out where his haunts are, and ATF should be here any minute.â
âYou sure youâre alright?â he asks again.
We nod.
âMrs. Walker said her husband spent most of his time in the garage.â I say.
âLetâs check it out.â Hotch responds.
We all head over to the garage. It looked like a typical garage. Tools on the wall. Plywood walls. However, it wasnât as messy as normal garages.
âWell, we got the organized part right.â Hotch said.
âWhatâs this?â Elle asks pointing to a contraption.
It looked like a battery type thing with jumper cables attached connecting to a dime.
âIâve seen these. Itâs for electroplating.â Hotch says.
âLook at the date on the coin.â
âItâs half gone.â I say.
âHe was using this to build up the metal so he could change the dates on the coins.â Hotch explains.
âTo increase the value.â Elle says.
âExactly.â Hotch responds.
âLike what he did with Barbara Kellerâs coins.â Elle says.
âLook over here. Check this out.â an officer says.
We all go over. It was a cork board of newspaper clippings. He was keeping track of who made the best bombs. Surprise surprise it was Bale.
âSo this is why he chose to use Baleâs design.â Hotch says.
âHe was working on something.â Elle says, pulling away a sheet.
Under it was materials for a bomb. On the board, clippings from the explosion Bale caused that killed the six agents.
âMake sure Morrison tells your officers that this guy is smart, dangerous, and he has absolutely nothing to lose.â Hotch says to the officer.

3rd Person POV at FBI Headquarters
As Penelope Garcia lays out her lunch and gets ready to eat Derek Morgan throws down a big stack of papers.
âYou ready to do some work?â he asks.
âWhy not? I havenât slept this week. I might as well give up eating, too.â she answers, defeated putting her sandwich down.
âOh, poor baby. Try not to let the tears hit the paper. It gets a little messy.â Derek teases.
âHmm. What are they?â she asks.
âThese are emails from Baleâs account. Reid forwarded them to me.â he tells her.
âWhat are we looking for?â she asks again.
âWell, right now, this guy Walkerâs in the wind, so we gotta look at him from every angle, see if we can figure out his next move.â Morgan explains.
âSignature behavior. If Walker got bomb making tips from Bale, then maybe he got tips on staying clear of the cops.â Garcia says.
âUh-oh somebodyâs been taking notes.â Derek says teasingly.
âMedical school, schmedical school.â Garcia responds.
âHa, ha, well, donât hurt yourself, Garcia.â he laughs.
âNow find me something.â
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
Persephone Chaseâs POV
We made it back to the station. Gideon is now with us and Morrison tells us they have yet to find Walker.
âWhat do we know about Walker?â Gideon asks.
âHeâs a quiet career criminal. Spent four years in prison for a series of forged checks when he was in his early 20s. Heâs now 46. Past 18 years, he owned a store which sold coins, maps, and historical documents. We raided the place as soon as you gave us Walkerâs name. Most of his inventory was fake, forgeries valued in the millions.â Morrison explained.
âBut the walls started to close in on him. We talked to some of his clients, and he was in debt up to his ears. And promising stuff he didnât have time to forge.â Hotch adds.
âThe Barbara Keller found out that the coins he had sold her were fake. She threatened to out him.â Elle adds.
âAnd if she had, all the forgeries would have been discovered. He would have done 20 years.â I say.
âSo he had to shut her up?â Gideon asks.
Hotch nods.
âHe planted all those bombs just to kill one little, old lady?â Gideon asks, confused.
âYeah, and to throw us off, he made it look like it was much bigger than it was.â Hotch adds.
âYou hear me? I said stop now!â an officer yelled, grabbing everyoneâs attention.
It was a man with a bomb around his neck.
âPlease...help me.â
âEveryone back...Now. We need bomb squad in here.â Morrison says as he and the other officers pull out their guns.
âPlease...itâs not me.â the man pleads.
âDonât come any closer.â Morrison warns.
âPut your hands up and walk slowly back out.â
âI canât. Heâll kill me.â he says.
âWho will?â Gideon asks.
âI donât know. He held a gun to meâŠput this on me. He said...youâll know who he is.â the man explains.
Gideon shrugs. âWell, what does he want?â
âA helicopter. A passport. Heâs watching.â the man tells us, motioning his head towards the door.
âOnce he gets what he wants, heâs got instructions to defuse the bomb.â
âWalkerâs close by.â Gideon says.
Morrison orders for snipers around the perimeter. Gideon tells the man we understand and we wonât leave him. He pleads again to get it off. Gideon explains we need to know how it is built first then we can get it off. Tracy came in and quickly took a picture. The room was at a standstill. The poor man whimpered. âTrick or treat!â said Allie after your dad answered the front door in a batman t shirt.Â
âWell arenât you the cutest little Elsa,â he said. He dropped a few big handfuls of candy in her bag and then a few more. He tickled Colin and got a laugh from him. âColin you are the most adorable baby Yoda ever cutie and I gotta say...you ainât a half bad Mandalorian, kid. You almost look tough or something.â
âItâs cause Iâm a badass,â said TJ as he stuck out his chest.
âItâs cause youâre a nerd,â said your dad. You walked inside, Colin giggling as your mom stole him away without a second glance. âNice costume though.â
âY/N picked it out off some website or something,â he said. He sneezed and your dad shut the door. âGod my allergies are killing me lately. Ragweed is horrible this year.â
âI know. De and I have been popping allergy meds the past few days,â he said. âYou get it the worst.â
âYeah but I started taking it like a week ago to build it up. I think itâs helping. Also, a bounty hunter and an adoptive dad? Mmm, peak man crush right there, babe,â you said, your dad rolling his eyes as TJ kissed your cheek.
âAnd what exactly are you supposed to be? A curtain?â teased your dad as you spun around.
âI thought Iâd go another route,â you said. You took off your robe and he went wide eyed. âSoldier...girl?â
âOh my God. Youâre Solider Boy. That is so fucking cool!â he said as he looked you over.
âJay, fuckâs a bad word,â said Allie.Â
âAnd we donât repeat bad words, do we,â said TJ. âDeâs got some more candy for you somewhere I bet.â
She took off up to the TV room and your dad walked around you.
âWhat do you think?â you asked. âLook real?â
âOkay thatâs like good. Like real good. Itâs just like mine from the show. Like even the shield looks the same.â
âItâs from the show. Kripke sent it to me. I know itâs a little big for my back but I couldnât not use it,â you said. âI took a long shot and asked him on Twitter about it and he just like sent me the thing. He was really nice.â
âGood,â he said as he looked you over. âI am impressed. You guys might win your costume contest thing at whatever bar youâre going to.â
âI just want to go drink,â you said, TJ throwing an arm over your shoulders. âWeâll be back around eleven, midnight?âÂ
âGo have fun. Mom and Iâll watch the babies tonight. Pick âem up in the morning,â he said.
âWe didnât pack bags for them,â you said. He stared at you and shook his head.
âYou live a quarter of a mile away. We shall survive without you for one evening,â he said, pushing you both out the door. âGo have fun with Cody. Iâll see your hungover butts tomorrow, okay?â
âDonât have to tell us twice.â
âCody,â you said at the bar a few hours later. He finished off his drink and shook out his head. âCan you check on TJ? Heâs been in the bathroom awhile.â
âYeah. Order me another gin and tonic?â he asked.
âCan do,â you said. You hopped off your seat and paused for a moment, getting your bearings before you walked over to the bar. âGin and tonic and another...graveyardâŠâ
âGraveyard smash?â asked the girl behind the bar.
âYeah. Another one of those. Oh and a bottle of bud,â you said. You handed over your card to pay, tucking it back in your shorts pocket. You brought the drinks over to the table, finishing off your margarita and the last of TJâs old beer before you started sipping on the Halloween mixer.Â
It took about thirty seconds before you realized what youâd done.
âFuck,â you said. You pursed your lips and took out your phone, biting your bottom lip before you dialed.
âYou better be drunk calling me,â chuckled your dad. âWhatâs up, kiddo?â
âThe guys are in the bathroom and I just drank from a glass that nobody was watching,â you said. You shut your eyes and felt a little off, not sure if it was because of the already decent amount of alcohol in you or something else. âWhat do I do?â
âGo to the bar and sit there and donât move. The boys will be back soon,â he said. You tried to move but felt wobbly and sat back on your seat. âY/N, donât hang up on me.â
âDad, I donât think I can walk over there,â you said. âIâm drunk but...shit I fucked up.â
âWhere are you?â he asked.
âUm, the uh...the place to the right of Jaredâs.â
âOkay. Sit there. Iâm gonna callâŠâ he said as you stared down at the bathrooms. âY/N. Answer me.â
âI think somethingâs wrong,â you said. âThe boys are taking too long.â
âCody is a police officer and TJ is tougher than he looks. Theyâre probably throwing up or something,â he said.
âTJ said he felt funny,â you said as you stared at his glass. âWhat if it was in his drink?â
âI donât know but whatever you do, do not leave your spot,â he said.
âBut itâs TJ.â
âY/N Iâm having a hard enough time not freaking out right now. Please do not move,â he said.Â
âHey! Soldier boy!â said a guy walking by in a homelander costume. âNice suit.â
âCan you do me a favor?â you said, the guy smiling as he leaned against your table. âMy husband and friend went to the bathroom a long time ago and didnât come back. Oneâs the Mandalorian and the other one is a zombie. Can you check on them for me?â
âYes I can very drunk girl,â he chuckled. âIâll be back.â
âY/N, stop putting the phone down,â said your dad in your ear.
âHomelanderâs going to look for the boys.â
âYour boys or The Boys?â he asked.
âShould I have clarified?â
âJust...Iâll be there soon. Donât-â
âBoys!â you said, Homelander wandering back over with a very pale looking TJ and a wet Cody.
âI think your friends were puking in the alley,â said Homelander.
âThank you so much,â you said. âYouâre so sweet.â
âMind if I get a pic? Your costume is kinda perfect,â he said.
âNot at all,â you said. You hopped off your seat and felt better. âAh, okay. Just drunk.â
âHm?â said TJ as you hung up your call and the other guy gave him his phone. âHey thereâs a starlight over there too.â
âStarlight! Come get your pic taken with the Seven, girl!â you shouted.
âSheâs drunk,â said the homelander guy with a laugh.Â
âAfter three of those graveyard smash things? Oh for sure,â said TJ.
Half an hour later you were onto another drink and TJ was fanboying over star wars with another guy in a Mandalorian outfit. Cody was talking to the starlight chick who was maybe in a relationship with the homelander guy. They were at least mutually pining for one another if they werenât already.
âMorris. Come on. Iâm drunk and even I can tell Kayla Starlight over there is dying for you to ask her out,â you said. He shrugged and you cocked your head. âOh come on.â
âSheâs been my best friend since I was like four. Like, I canât fuck up twenty something years of friendship if sheâs...how fucked am I?â he asked as you smirked.
âSo fucked,â you laughed. âTrust me. I was besties with my husband for years before we finally talked about it. Sometimes you just gotta-â
âWhy the fuck havenât you been answering your phone?â you heard your dad say. You spun around and gave him a smile.
âIs that the guy that played-â
âWalk away kid. Now,â growled your dad.Â
âSee ya around, Y/N,â he said, Kayla disappearing with a wave with him. TJ spun around and your dad shot him a dirty look.
âWhatâd I do?â asked TJ.
âYou three are glued to your phones yet tonight for some reason, you seem to have forgotten they exist. If youâd read a text then youâd know that she called me half an hour ago saying she thought sheâd been drugged.â
âWhat?â Cody and TJ said, both of them staring at you.
âFuck, Y/N I thought someone took you,â said your dad. You opened your mouth and he shook his head.
âSheâs just drunk,â said TJ.Â
âWell thanks for the update. You could have answered your phone,â he said. He glared at you and shook his head. âDonât ever do that again.â
He left the bar and you slid off your seat, jogging outside, telling the boys youâd be back in a minute. There were a lot of people out for a Friday night and it took a second to find him in the crowd.Â
âDad,â you said. You caught up with him as he walked down the sidewalk. You tugged on his arm and the man spun around, very much not your father. âSorry. I thought you were someone else.â
âNice costume,â he said and you stepped back into another body, your head swimming. âYou gonna puke? Alleyâs over there.â
You turned your head and jogged around the corner, spitting up your stomach with a big heave. You wiped off your mouth and sighed, getting up to your feet. There was a shove on your back and you got pushed further into the darkness, falling onto the dirt and gravel. You spun around on your bottom and saw the guy from before.
âBe more careful, kid. Youâre tripping there.â
âYou pushed me,â you grumbled as you stood up, picking up a rock in your fist as you went.
âYouâre on something. You got that look in your eye,â he said. You narrowed your eyes and he walked forward, close enough for you to whack him in the head with the rock. He swore as he fell down and you ran back onto the street, jogging away until you got to a street corner and saw a familiar back of someoneâs head.
âDad,â you said, tugging on his jacket, relieved to find it was him this time. âDad, there was-â
âI donât want to speak to you right now,â he said. You swallowed and stared at him, his face hard.
âDad. I-â
âYou never hang up the phone with me when you call me like that ever again, do you understand?â he said. You stared at him and his jaw clenched. âOf course you donât. Youâre drunk.â
âDad Iâm not. I-â
âYou smell like vomit,â he said with a scoff. You turned around and saw the man from before hanging back, shooting you a look. âGo back to the bar, Y/N.â
âDad-â
âWould you just go?â he shouted.Â
âDad donât. I need-â
âFor fucks sake. Just go away.â
You let go of his arm, tears welling in your eyes.Â
âGrow up,â he said. You stepped back, watching him walk across the street.
âD-Daddy,â you said. He stopped in the crosswalk and looked back at you, his gaze following yours over to the man. The man saw him look at him and took off back towards the bars when he saw your dad scowling. Your dad jogged back over to you, tensing when you took a step back from him.Â
âNo oneâs gonna hurt you,â he said. He stepped closer and you squeezed your eyes shut. âY/N. Whatâs wrong?â
âI feel funny and Iâm drunk and Iâm scared and Iâm scared of you,â you breathed out. âYou were gonna leave me alone.â
âY/N-â
âYou said you wouldnât leave me alone,â you said. You stumbled over to a nearby wall and slide down it, your head in your hands. âDonât leave me alone. You promised. You said so.â
âOkay,â he said as he sat down beside you. He kissed the top of your head and you heard him shudder. âYouâre okay, munchkin, I promise.â
âHow are you feeling this morning?â asked the doctor that walked into your room.Â
âTired,â you mumbled. TJ and Cody were there in their own stalls, still in their costumes, your dad out in the hall talking to someone.
âYour blood alcohol content was up there,â he said. âEspecially you, Y/N.â
âI want to go home,â you groaned.
âYouâll be discharged shortly,â he said. You grumbled and half an hour later you were signing something that you could leave.
âY/N,â said your dad as you walked away from the nurses station. You glanced over your shoulder, glancing down until he came over. âWe need to talk about last night.â
âNo we donât. We got too drunk. I fucked up. Lesson learned,â you said. You started to head out and he grabbed your shoulder. âJensen let go.â
âY/N,â he said, spinning you around. He opened his mouth and you crossed your arms, shrugging him off. âI made a mistake.â
âI had to beg you to help me. I called you daddy I was so scared,â you said. He shut his eyes and you growled. âLook at me.â
He snapped his eyes up, his eyes a little red already but you were too angry to care.
âThe only other time Iâve ever called you that, I thought you were dead on that road. I thought...I thought there was absolutely...I was drunk and maybe drugged and your reaction was to get pissed at me, at us, for not answering phones. A man tried to attack me and I got away because my dad told me to grab whatever I could if I was ever in that situation. There you were, the safest place in the world, the safest I could ever feel after something like that happened and you told me to go away. I was terrified and you could see it on my face and you left me. You made me beg for you to help me. I donât know who the fuck you were last night but you were not my father. Youâre Jensen again until he decides to come back.â
âY/N,â he said quietly. âIâm sorry.â
âCongratulations. Youâre just like every other foster father I ever had.â
He stared at you and you turned around, walking past both TJ and Cody.
âY/N,â said TJ and you kept walking. âY/N. Jensen, she didnât mean that.â
âYes, I did. Letâs go TJ.â
One Week Later
The doorbell rang and you rolled your eyes, TJ walking past the couch and away from the door.
âTJ, can-â
âTell him yourself,â he said, going to his office and slamming the door. You glared at it before going to the front door. You opened it quickly, your dad standing there in his raincoat and swallowing thickly.
âIs this about work?â you asked.
âNo,â he said quietly.
âThen get off of my property.â
âY/N-â he said as you slammed the door shut in his face. He rang the doorbell again and you ripped it open. âHoney-â
âIâm not your honey or kiddo or tall munchkin or anything, Jensen. This is me telling you that I want you out of my life,â you said. He lowered his head and you heard him sniffle. âI donât give a fuck about if you cry. Get out of our lives. Stay away from my family.â
âIâll do whatever you want me to,â he breathed out, forcing his head up. His eyes were red and puffy, face tired like itâd been that way for days. âIâll do whatever you want. I promise.â
âYou humiliated me,â you said, stepping outside and pulling the door shut. âI thought you loved me.â
âI do,â he said. âI love you so much you-â
âYou donât even know. Boo fucking hoo,â you said. He stepped back and looked small, rain dripping down on him now. âThe real world sucks. Get used to it.â
âI made a mistake. Please,â he said. âY-you donât have to forgive me. You can...just let me try. Please. Weâve always tried. P-please let me try.â
You stared at him, watching him look down, watching him debate getting on his knees.
And it dawned on you what youâd done. What youâd said.
âY/N, Y/N, honey,â said TJ. You looked up from the floor of your bathroom, your dad knelt down on your other side. âHoney, look at me.â
He grabbed your face and you felt wet tears streaming steadily down your cheeks.
âWhat happened?â you asked. âI was on the porch and now Iâm here?â
âYou were talking to your dad outside and he said you just...fell over crying.â
âSomethingâs wrong with me,â you said. You shut your eyes and TJ looked around.
âIâm gonna call the doctor,â he said. âJensen can you keep an eye on her?â
âOf course,â he said. He kept his distance and you sniffled, opening your eyes. He looked down when you met his eyes and you started to cry.
âIâm sorry,â you said. You grabbed his arm and sat up on your knees, giving him a big hug. âDad Iâm so sorry. I love you. Please forgive me. Please. Please. Iâm sorry. I want to be your daughter. I want my dad back. Please.â
âI wasnât going anywhere,â he said. He relaxed and felt like himself again, your head resting on his shoulder.Â
âUh, guys?â asked TJ. You lifted your head up, TJ holding up his phone. âY/N, I think I know why you freaked out on Jensen so bad.â
âHow would the doctor know that over the phone?â asked your dad.
âThereâs a recall out on a certain allergy medication warning people not to take it according to this headline,â said TJ.Â
âWhy would-â
âItâs not allergy medicine. Itâs an antipsychotic drug. They mixed up the pills during manufacturing. Apparently if you give those to people that donât need them, it fucks with their heads,â said TJ.
âYou take them too,â you said as TJ nodded, your dad quiet. âDad you and mom do-â
âI think we all better go to the hospital and get checked out. Right now.â
âHow do you feel?â asked your mom a few hours later.
âMy head feels normal again,â you sighed from your hospital bed. You opened your eyes, her hand running over your head. âDid I fuck it up. With dad. I think I broke it. That thing we had and itâs never going to fix back the same way.â
âYou were on a very strong antipsychotic without you knowing. We are lucky all you had was some anger and a few delusions. It could have been much worse,â she said. âDaddyâs not mad, sweetie.â
âMom Iâve never seen him like that. I was soâŠâ
âWasnât just you,â he said as he rounded the corner into the room. He was out of his clothes and in a pair of pants and a plain t shirt now, holding up the bracelet on his wrist. âWhyâd I have to get all the crying? I would have rather have been pissed off like you got.â
âYour test came back positive?â asked your mom.
âYeah. So far thatâs Y/N, me, TJ, Cody. The younger kids donât seem to have it thankfully since they take the kid version. They want you to get tested though,â he said.
âBut momâs been normal,â you said as you sat up.
âWellâŠâ he said as she rolled her eyes. âMomâs been a little...aggressive in-â
âDonât need to know,â you said. He chuckled and he took a seat on the opposite bed, your mom heading out. They hooked him up to an IV to clear out his system and he took a seat beside you on the bed. You looked down, getting a bump on the shoulder. His hand as on his lap, palm facing up and you smiled.
âThatta girl,â he said as you rested yours in it. âGonna take more than some antipsychotics to tear us apart.â
âYou are the greatest foster father Iâve ever had and arguably the kindest human being Iâve ever known,â you said. He was quiet and you took a deep breath, looking across the room. âYou protected me, even when you were being affected by this. I want you to forget everything Iâve said from Halloween night on. It wasnât true. Not a second of it.â
âWas the daddy part true?â he asked. âThe accident.â
âI expect you to protect me when TJâs not around. I expect it when he is too to be honest. I spent a long time protecting myself. I was scared on that road. You couldnât protect me. You couldnât protect me from watching you almost die. I know how life works and that parents are not invulnerable. They get hurt. They get angry. They make mistakes. Theyâre human. But Iâll always be your child and on a rare occasion, Iâll need my fucking daddy to tell me itâs okay and Iâll believe him. Iâm sorry for hurting him so badly.â
âYou are still as ridiculous as the day you walked in your room and told me not to bother with you,â he said, tucking your hair behind your ear. âYou can hurt me. You can destroy me. You can ruin me beyond repair. Youâre the only thing that puts me back together though. Heals the wounds so I forget they existed. Iâve been broken before. More than you know. I am sure I will fall apart again too. But these small creatures I call my children fix all of that. The girl who ran away, who was afraid of me, she just told me I make her feel safe. I protect her. So Iâm sorry but I wonât forgive you since thereâs nothing to forgive. You werenât yourself and neither was I yet you still pushed past it and realized this wasnât normal for us. Maybe some people fight and some families would have let it go but we know we donât stop trying in this family. Even when weâre all a little off. Iâm proud of you.â
âFor what?â you said quietly. He fixed your hair again, playing with it for a moment. He tickled the back of your ear and you giggled. âDad.â
âGiggles never hurt either,â he said. He threw his arm over your shoulders and pulled you in close, kissing the top of your head. âYouâre not that scared kid anymore, Y/N. Youâre never gonna be her again. Youâre strong. Even now, I know this will bother you for a little while but it wonât change anything. Weâll be even better if thatâs possible.â
âYou were begging me at the house,â you said.
âCould have gotten that new bronco youâve been looking at. Sounds like you lost out,â he chuckled.
âDork,â you said as you hugged him.
âIâm sorry for how I acted that night at the bar too. Iâll never do it again. I promise to not leave your side if you ever call me for help. Not for a second.â
âDad you donât have to apologize.â
âIâm bigger than you. I get to force this apology,â he said. âAm I forgiven?â
âAlways,â you said. You saw a guy go past in the hall and you went wide eyed. âThatâs the guy from the alley!â
âHey,â said your dad with a smile as you got up. He walked out with his IV, you on his tail as the guy turned around with his doctor. The man looked at you and shook his head. âYouâre the dickhead that tried to hurt my daughter arenât you? I thought that was you.â
âEw,â you said, looking at the infected cut on his head. Your dad moved forward and you caught his arm. âUm, maybe we can call the police?âÂ
A security guard at the nurseâs station got up and the man sighed, your dad narrowing his eyes.
âI was only gonna kill him a little,â he said. The man stared and your dad cocked his head. âIâm hopped up on anti-psychotics buddy. I can be very creative.â
âDad,â you said, dragging him back into the room. âLet the police handle it.â
âI did get a little too happy about fantasizing over that,â he said as he sat down. You rolled your eyes and took a seat, laying back on the bed.
âAm I too big for a cuddle?â you asked.
âNope, especially not in the hospital,â he said. He sat back and you rested your head on his shoulder. âWhere is that husband of yours anyways?â
âI think heâs on the phone with the lawyer trying to sue or something,â you said. âLet him wander the halls and get it out of his system.â
âExcuse me?â You both turned to look at the door. âHi. Iâm Morris Harrison with Richmond...Solider Boy?â
âHomelander?â you said as Morris shook his head. âUh, hi?â
âHi. I uh, Iâm a lawyer at Richmond and Associates and weâre working the class action against the pharmaceutical manufacturer. I got a call about more cases,â he said, handing over a business card.Â
âWeâll be getting the family lawyer in contact with you rest assured,â said your dad. He nodded and looked away. âYou okay?â
âMorris this is my dad, Jensen. Dad this is the nice boy from the bar you shouted at,â you said.
âTo be fair, I was mentally impaired...and I mean come on, Homelander? Gotta be careful of those,â he smirked.Â
âI was actually gonna beâŠâ he said, shaking his head. âSorry.â
âYou and Kayla were gonna be Sam and Dean! Oh yeah. Now I remember,â you said.Â
âI like the new friend,â chuckled your dad.
âIâll see you guys around sometime. Maybe a little less drinking this time?â said Morris.
âYeah. Text TJ. Weâll get together,â you said. âOh. I gotta ask. Howâd the Kayla situation work out?â
âWe have our sixth date tonight,â he said. You grinned and he rolled his eyes. âYouâre alright drunk girl.â
âLater Homelander,â you said with a wave as he left.
âHe was nice,â said your dad. âDid I really shout at him?â
âYeah. I think heâs a fan so thank you for being nicer this time,â you said.Â
âWell...at least you made a few new friends out of this experience?â he said. âSilver lining?â
âI will take a quiet, happy day for now,â you said.
âMe too, kiddo.â
Three Days Later
It was after ten when you slipped inside your parents house. It was a little dark, your siblings all at sleepovers. You poked your head around a corner, your dad in the kitchen mixing two cocktails together. He lifted his head up, cocking his head.
âY/N?â he asked as you stepped out from around the corner. âWhat are you doing here?â
âI know you and mom got the house to yourselves so Iâll only be a minute,â you said.Â
âUh, what?â he said as you walked over and gave him a hug. He returned it and ran his hand over your head. âY/N. I know you didnât mean what you said. You can stop apologizing. Please.â
âI know,â you said.Â
âAlright then,â he said. âIâll take free hugs anytime.â
âDad.â
âYeah?â he asked as you squeezed him hard. He returned it and you smirked as you looked up. âWhat are you up to?â
âCan I show you something?â you asked. He nodded and you pulled him with you towards your old room, back to being one for guests. You walked him inside and sat him down on the bed as he watched you. You went over to the closet and turned on the light reaching up top into a shoe box. You took it down and walked it over, handing it to him.
âWhatâs this?â he asked.
âMy dadâs kinda sappy and he writes me these letters,â you said. He rolled his eyes but smiled, putting his hands on top. âI started writing back. I put them in this box and figured one day youâd find them. But I know it wouldnât hurt for you to maybe peek a look now after everything.â
He nodded and smiled, freezing when he took off the lid.
âY/N...how many letters is this?â
âA boxful?â you said. âI maybe write them with more...frequency than he does. They are dated and hopefully in order.â
He picked out the first one and shut his eyes. You bit your bottom lip and he took a deep breath.
âThis is from four days after your seventeenth birthday.â
âEvery time I went to therapy I wrote one. Some are for mom but your names are on the envelopes.â
âWhy does this one say dad?â he asked, holding up the first one. âI wasnât dad for years.â
âOh we both know you were my father the first day I stepped foot in here,â you said. âI could pretend to a piece of paper. It was safe. It wouldnât hurt me. I started calling you dad in my head a very long time ago. I just didnât say it in case you didnât want me to be your daughter in the end.â
He put the envelope back in the box and carefully put the lid on, tucking it by his side. He wiped off his face with the back of his hands and looked up at you.
âNext month you turn twenty eight. Youâll have been with us for a hair over eleven years. This last year...the accident...TJ and his dad...now this...youâre the adult more lately than I am.â
âDad Iâm almost twenty eight like you said. But my head still feels...younger. Youâre fifty one. But you still probably think of yourself as a twenty year old kid.â
âYou are learning the secrets of adulthood after all,â he said, wiping off his face again. âY/N...I have this fear when it comes to you. Itâs only you. I understand why. But itâs a fear Iâve lived with for quite a long time. Itâs a fear I thought came true earlier in the week.â
âShe was a bitch that didnât know better.â
âDonât call yourself a bitch,â he said, sounding young, shaking his head. âYouâve always been tougher than me. I put on a good act but Iâm...Iâm privileged and Iâve had an easy life and even that seems hard sometimes. I couldnât be you. Iâm not strong enough. Iâm not strong enough to erase the fear that I had, that lingered.â
âWhat are you afraid of?â you asked as you sat down on the bed.
âI have always loved you. But there was a time you didnât love me and it took a while before it was unconditional. Iâve always had this fear that I would fuck up and hurt you, make you not love me anymore and thatâs selfish of me. I know it is. But I canât lose you. It just...I was broken last week. Like somebody ripped part of my soul out and it was gone forever. Iâve dealt with grief and death and heartbreak and nothing has ever hurt like that. The drugs did all that I know but...I would have done anything to get you back. Anything. And this girl, this amazing young woman, she writes me letters. Sheâs been writing me letters for eleven years. I never had to be afraid of you either, did I.â
âNo,â you said. âBut itâs okay. Boys are allowed to get scared too.â
âYour parents did a pretty good job with you,â he said.
âYes. I think the four of them did too,â you said.
âI didnât raise you.â
âYes you did,â you said. You shoved a hand in your pocket and pulled out an envelope, handing it to him.Â
âAnother for the box?â he asked.
âI already snuck todayâs in there,â you said. âThis is different.â
âWhat is it?â
âJust open it.â He untucked the flap and laughed, pulling out the sheet of paper. âTJ thought it was cute.â
âAn IOU to tag along whenever Iâd like when you go out drinking,â he chuckled. âIâm gonna need several hundred more of these while youâre at it.â
âHow about like three?â you said.
âI will settle for you calling me if you think youâre in trouble,â he said. You nodded and he rested his head on your shoulder. âEven drugged up you still did that.â
âWell, the drugs didnât kick in really until that night. Having allergies sucks,â you said. âYou get the runny nose and itchy eyes and the crazy stuff. So not fun.â
âNope,â he said, giving you a hug. âI was totally gonna have sex with mom all night but now I got all these letters to read.â
âOh God, gross,â you said, shuddering as you stood up. He laughed and lay back on the bed, giggling as you shook yourself off. âI donât need to hear about your nasty sex life.â
âI have an incredible sex life. Like so much-â
âGoodbye father,â you said as you walked out of the room.
âYou donât even want to know how often if Iâm being honest,â he said as you walked quickly to the front door. He cracked up and you groaned. âNight, kiddo.â
âNight, dad. Enjoy your letters.â
You woke up around three in the morning, rolling over in bed and catching a few texts on your phone. You lifted your head and saw they were from your dad, a smile growing across your face.
I read the last letter first. All I gotta say is you never have to worry about me going away, no matter how much you scream and shout. Youâre stuck with me forever, kiddo. Not even strong medication can tear that apart. Nothing can.Â
Also, for the record, I get to be the sap in this relationship, not you. Box full of cards. Do you know how hard it is to one up that? Do you? Keeping me on my toes kid. Iâm sure Iâll come up with something though.
Love you tall munchkin.
âSomething wrong?â mumbled TJ. You put your phone down and shook your head.
âNot at all,â you said. You tucked in close to his side, TJ rolling to his own and tucking your head under his chin. He hummed and rubbed your arm, kissing the top of your head. âLove you.â
âLove you too, honey.â

---------
The first thing Claude thought was: âDid anyone get the number on the bus that just hit me?â
âSir!? Sir!? Are you alright!?â
The second thing Claude thought was: â...Oh...â
He stared up at the bespectacled blue haired woman looking over him with concern on her face.
âSir! Do you need me to call someone? Do you know where you are? What...â
Claude groaned as he finally sat up and gave the woman a carefree smile.
âIâm fine, Iâm fine. No need to call somebody and if itâll make you feel better, weâre at the Garreg Mach Public Library.â
She sighed in relief and smiled back.
âGood.â
The blue haired woman offered her hand to Claude and helped him up. She then turned to a group of young kids. Guess she must have been a teacher or something.
âKana?â
One kid in particular, a young boy with messy silver hair stepped forward and stood next to his teacher.
âNow Kana, what do we say when we bump into someone?â
The boy looked up at Claude with big fat tears in his eyes.
âIâM SORRY MISTER! I DIDNâT MEAN TO! I GOT EXCITED AND...â
âHey, hey no need to shout little guy, weâre at the library. And donât worry, I forgive you. Just make sure you listen to your Teach okay?â
The boy let out a sniffle and an âOkay.â
He went back to his little group and took the hand of a red-haired girl a couple years older than him.
The teacher looked back at Claude, âOnce again, I am so sorry for my student...â
âCome on, you donât gotta apologize too. Believe me, if you want to hear some horror stories about hyper kids, just ask my mom about my childhood.â
She gave a small chuckle and Claude felt a slight heat in his cheeks.
âNonetheless, they are my responsibility. So I shoulder some of the blame.â
âDonât worry, Iâm fine. You should get back to your job instead of worrying about me.â
She nodded and turned back to her group, âAlright everyone, now where we?â
Claude watched with a smile as the kids and their teacher walked off to the libraryâs kids section.Â
He quickly returned to what he was doing before and yet as the day went on, he kept thinking about the blue haired woman.
She seemed nice, hells nicer than some of the teachers he grew up with. Those kids are lucky to have her.
Not to mention, if Claude had to be honest, she was kind of cute and that laughâŠ
Claude shook his head, what was he doing? Itâs not like he was going to see her again.
...Though he wouldnât mind that⊠maybe get to hear her laugh againâŠ
âŠ
â...I picked a bad time to realize I have a thing for girls in glasses didnât I?â
===
Telling Dimitri and Edelgard about what happened was probably the dumbest thing Claude could have done.
Dimitriâs reaction wasnât too bad, supportive and was even willing to help out if needed, but Edelgard⊠Claude canât remember the last time his friend laughed this hard.
â...You done?â
Edelgardâs laughter started to slow down and she finally took a few breaths.
âM-my apologies, Claude itâs justâŠhahaha... itâs just funny to think that you, Claude âI donât believe in hokey stuff like Moon Signs and Soulmatesâ Von Reigen of all people would fall in love at first sight.â
âHey I did NOT âfall in love at first sight.â Iâm just curious about her and want to see her again. Get to know her better you know?â
âThat⊠sounds an awful lot like love at first sight.â Remarked Dimitri the Traitor
Claude glared at them both as he took a swig of his drink.
The blonde smiled and continued, âTo be honest, it all does sound rather romantic.â
âExcept for the part where you were knocked over by a toddler.â Added Edelgard
âI did not get knocked over by a toddler⊠I think the kid was in kindergarten.â
At that, Dimitri let out a laugh that he tried very hard to hide. Claude said nothing as he went back to his drink.
âAll joking aside, what was her name? Perhaps you could look her up online...â asked Edelgard
At that, Claude nearly choked.Â
Shit! He never got her name!
Claude smacked his head against the bar and even though he couldnât see them, he could feel the disappointed expressions on Dimitri and Edelgardâs faces.
...Well okay maybe disappointed isnât the right word but they are judging him.
===
At some point last night, his friends did actually give Claude some good advice.
Most of the local schools had photos of their staff on their websites and without knowing her name, this seemed like the best and âleast likely to get the cops called on himâ way to find her.Â
So he grabbed his phone and a notepad and sat down at his favorite coffee shop. This shouldnât take too long right?
...Too bad no one told him that there was a whole lot of elementary schools in Garreg Mach. Claude knew this place was a big city. Heâs lived here for a good few years now and he swears he keeps finding new old places.Â
But did this city really need this many elementary schools!?
âNot really how I pictured spending my afternoonâ Claude muttered as he scratched out Saint Cethlean Elementary & Middle School off his list. At this rate, Mystery Teach will have retired by the time Claude found out where she worked.
After scratching out six or maybe seven more schools from the list, Claude took a glance around the coffee shop; the place was starting to get a little too crowded for his liking. Maybe he should head out and take a break. Maybe do some people watching near the old Monastery.
However just as he stood up, he spotted a familiar someone at the counter.
âHere you go Maâam, have a nice day!â âThank you, you too.â
No way⊠there was no wayâŠ
Except there was no mistaking that blue hair or her voice.
...Claude wasnât exactly a religious man but he couldnât help but mentally thank whatever god or goddess seemed to be listening to him.
He waited until she stepped out of line before taking a deep breath, putting on his most charming smile, and approaching her; being very careful not to startle her.
However before he could reach her, the crowd in the shop seemed to shift and Claude found himself stuck.
âHey! âScuse me! Tryna get through!â
Claude tried his best to get through the crowd but some people were just way too stubborn and pushy for their own. Before long, Claude found himself falling forward out of the crowd.
âOkay Iâm taking back the thanks to any god or goddess listening, cause theyâre obviously jerks and are laughing at me.â
Claude stood back and tried to look for around for the woman. Soon he spotted her through the window, walking away and chatting with a short haired blonde woman. The blonde seemed familiar somehow to Claude but he couldnât put his finger on it.
As for who she probably was, she was likely Teachâs co-worker or just a friend⊠or even a girlfriend.
It was that thought that made Claude realize: What the hells was he doing?
Is he really so desperate that a smile and some basic human decency is enough to make him act like an idiot tripping over himself?
He didnât even know her name, for godsâ sake!
Claude sighed as he picked up the things he dropped and headed out of the coffee shop.
====
Claude had hoped to spend a nice quiet evening hanging out and drinking with Dimitri and Edelgard.
Unfortunately this was not to be because when he arrived at their usual spot, Edelgard looked like she was ready to strangle someone and Dimitri was in a friendly(?) headlock by a loud drunk with bright red hair. It took Claude a minute to recognize the guy as Sylvain, one of Dimitriâs friends.
He took a seat next to Edelgard and shot her a sympathetic look. âLong night?â
âItâs only been an hour.â
âSo what brought Sylvain here?â
âApparently heâs getting married to Mercedes.â
If Claude had a drink, this would be the point where heâd spit it all over the counter.
âWait. Sylvain is getting married. OUR Sylvain?â
âDo we know any others?â
â...So...â
âDimitri called Mercedes to come pick Sylvain up. She was just getting off work when he called so hopefully sheâll be here soon.â
Claude looked at the thrilled drunk redhead and could hear him gushing about his fiancee and how sheâs one of the few people who could see the âreal him.âÂ
Meanwhile poor Dimitri is just nodding along and adding the ocasional âI knowâ and âIâm very happy for you.â
âNever thought Sylvain of all people would get married.â
âWell I suppose this week has been one for miracles. Speaking of: how is your search for your true love going?â
Claude decided to ignore the âtrue loveâ comment and explained to Edelgard that he gave up.
âGive up? That doesnât sound like you.â
âYeah well, I didnât realize how many schools I had to look up and I kind of had an epiphany that I was acting like a creepy idiot.â
âI see.â
After a few more minutes of trying to talk to his friends over Sylvainâs ramblings, Claude heard the sound of the bar door opening. He looked over and his eyes widened.
âMercedes? I almost didnât recognize you.â remarked Edelgard
The blonde giggled as she showed off her short hair.
âDo you like it? It was starting to become a bit of a hassle to take care of it and I thought it was time for a change.â
THATâS WHY SHE SEEMED FAMILIAR, Claude just didnât recognize her with the new haircut.
Upon hearing Mercedeâs voice, Sylvain released his death grip on Dimitri and stumbled over to her.
âBABY!â he shouted as he fell into her arms
âHello to you too dear.â Mercedes said with a smile
She then turned to the three, âI hope Sylvain didnât give you three too much trouble.â
âN-not at all. He merely wanted to let us know about the engagement and celebrate. Congratulations by the way.â said Dimitri
âLet us know when you figure out a wedding date alright?â said Edelgard
Mercedes nodded.
âWe will, thank you. Iâll be taking him home now. Good night everyone.â
As Mercedes started to walk towards the exit with Sylvainâs arm draped around her shoulders, Claude stood up.
âHey wait Mercie!â
âHm? Oh, Claude. What is it?â
âThis⊠might be a weird question but⊠do you⊠happen to have a co-worker whoâs a⊠woman with blue hair and glasses?â
===
âOkay so let me get the story straight. You were at the library, one of the kids that Mercie watches over knocked you flat on your ass and you fell in love with her co-worker when she checked on you?â
Claude glared at Sylvain, âAside from the âfalling in love part,â yeah you got it down.â
So it turned out that Mercedes was co-workers with Mystery Teach in an After-School Program. After Claude explained his situation, Mercedes offered to let Sylvain drive him to the school that she worked at to meet her co-worker, Byleth.Â
Gods did it feel good to FINALLY have a name to work with.
âYou know⊠since Iâm picking up Mercedes, if both girls are up for it, we can do a double date right away.â
âJust shut up and drive.â
The two stayed quiet for the rest of the ride (though not for lack of trying on Sylvainâs part) until they finally arrived at the school.
Claude could hear the kids further down the hall, guess Mercedes and Byleth werenât off the clock just yet. Thus he and Sylvain sat down on a nearby bench.
He chuckled and Sylvain looked at him curiously.
âOh just⊠sitting out here kinda makes me think of my own school days. Like Iâm waiting for the Principal to come out and lecture me for releasing a stink bomb in the gym.â
âWhoa, really?â Sylvain asked with a laugh
âIn my defense, it wasnât supposed to go off at that moment; the casing was just badly made.â
The two made small talk as they watched parents come in and out with their kids.
Claude always liked people watching but heâd never seen such⊠interesting characters.
Like the guy who looked like he stepped out of a comic book, his wife who looked like she could bench press DIMITRI, and their kid who looked like the dadâs sidekick.
Then thereâs the father+daughter duo wearing toy fox ears and making, heâs assuming, fox noises as they went down the hall.
A few more minutes passed by when a little voice shouted out, âHey Mister!â
Claude turned to the voice and saw that same silver haired boy who ran into him.
âOh well look who it is. You doing alright kid? Listening to your Teach, I hope?â
The boy, Kana, he thinks Byleth called him, nods and smiles.
âUh-huh. Are you here to see Ms. Byleth?â
âHeh, arenât you a smart kid. Yup, just here say hi to her.â
â...Are you marrying Ms. Byleth?â
Claudeâs eyes widened as he let out a choked noise and Sylvain let out a laugh.
âKana!â
Approaching them all was a friendly looking guy with silver hair, a woman with red hair that Claude could only describe as âfluffy,â and a slightly older red haired girl.
âHi mama!â
The little boy rushed into his momâs arms and was lifted up. The woman sighed and faced Claude and Sylvain.
âIâm sorry, I hope he wasnât bothering you.â
âN-nah, itâs⊠itâs fine.â Claude said, trying to hide the red on his face
The redheaded woman nodded and started to walk away with her family while the boy waved good-bye to Claude.
âBye-bye Mister!â
As soon as that family was out the doors, Sylvain shot Claude a shit-eating grin.
âSmart kid right?â
Claude said nothing as he glared at him.
A couple more families came and went and Claude was starting to nervously tap his foot on the floor. The longer the two waited, the more chances Claude had to overthink.
Did Byleth even remember what happened at the library? Would she just stare at him blankly if he tried to explain who he was? Would she think he was some stalker?
Thankfully before Claude could further give himself a panic attack, two women stepped out from one of the rooms.
Mercedes⊠and Byleth.
Sylvain of course practically jumped off the bench and ran over to greet his fianceé while Byleth stood to the side and watched the two in amusement.
Well⊠now or never. Claude stood up, took a deep breath, put on his most charming smile, and approached her; being very careful not to startle her.
âHey Teach.â
Byleth turned to him. At first she looked confused but a spark of recognition quickly lit her eyes.
âOh, itâs you, the man from the library. Are you doing alright? No bumps? No dizziness or anything?â
âI told you before, Iâm fine. You donât need to call a doc or anything. The nameâs Claude by the way.â he replied with a laugh as he offered his hand
âIâm Byleth and sorry about that. The double checkingâs become a force of habit. My roommate can tell you plenty of stories about me slipping into what she calls âTeacher Talkâ to her.â She said as she took his hand and shook it
âHeh well maybe if you got the time, we can sit down for a drink or some coffee and you can tell me all about it?â
Byleth gave him that same smile that he couldnât stop thinking about.
âIâd love to.â

All Karen ships rated (update)
Original hereÂ
I did this like a few months after making this account, and I thought itâd be fun to go back and re look at my ratings
Also since this one isnât a dare to rate EVERY ship I am cutting out the protag/companion section since theyâre all underaged and the original ratings reflected thus wiht them all being a no. Also getting rid of ones where sheâs with a pokemon.Â
Finally Iâm gonna add some ones I like to the very end
strike through=my side commentary, trying to be funny italicized=if asked Iâd be down to rp it mostly just to see how/it itâd work bold=ship name and who in it to help you find a certain ship highlights=they are grouped up, again in case you want to find that one ship * by ship name=Super random ships I find kinda wild ! by ship name=Dramatic change to original rating
ships on ânever ending romanceâ website.Â
Karen w/ a Villian:
! 180Shipping - Karen & Shelly -2 bad a ladies over here kicking butt and being fashionable heck yes, but also Karen is an awful swimmer so let the cute romance ensue 8/10
*AphoticShipping - Saturn & Karen-Karen would find it fun to mess with from time to time, and maybe could work. 5/10
*AtrociousShipping - Karen & Mars-I mean possible, but also Mars is really kinda child like so Karen may just want to protect her instead. 4/10
BarghestShipping - Karen & Lavana-I feel like itâd be like shipping Karen with a cheerleaderâŠan evil cheerleader. 2/10
! DarkIntentionShipping - Giovanni & Karen-Tbh yeah I like it. Just depends though because again she grew up with Silver who she is like a mom (or older sis some days) to, so that would have to be worked out. Plus sheâs kinda miffed he left Silver from seeing how much it hurt him. But also hateship to romance, basically Iâve been giving this one more thought and it could be heckin cute. 9/10
*IcePinkShipping - Karen & Lovrina-No too whinney and arrogant for Karen. 0/10
***ImperiousShipping - Hunter J & Karen-Oh dear gosh no, haaaard no, And before you ask about Twist!verse theyâd be both too emotionally closed. -50/100
! KariShipping - Courtney (Magma) & Karen- Been thinking about this one too and the more i think about it the less I see it. Both are too closed/awkward. 1/10
LiaisonShipping - Petrel & Karen-Kinda cute in a way with them balancing each other out. Itâs like obvious psycho with subtle psycho, and seems fun. 8/10
! PaybackShipping - Archer & Karen- Briefly had a little shipping with this and tbh really enjoyed it. If in an au just the dynamic of the couple in 101 Dalmatians would be these two. In main verse you could have them sneaking the romance and such to not get caught. Also evil Karen? Or good Archer? 9/10
PerishSongShipping - Proton & Karen-Heâs a bit reactive for her, and cocky though maybe sheâd balance him out? 5/10
! StrangeloveShipping - Domino & Karen-âŠI dunno why she makes me think of sailor moon, but she does Evil Karen? then ye this could work and be fun, maybe Twist!verse would even work. 8/10
TenebrousShipping - Ariana & Karen-I find it funny the team Karen was vaguely a part of, and now is a part of her life she works so hard to distance from is the one sheâs shipped with ALOT. Oh and Galactic of all things is second most common for some reason. Also eh on this one. Ariana has that mom vibe, and Karen distances herself from that usually. 3/10
Karen w/ gym leader:
*BerthierShipping - Cress & Karen-I dunno because he seems like a 16 year old teen to me, but their personalities would work, so maybe. 5/10
BittersweetShipping - Karen & Whitney-Hm I can think of some interesting plots with Karenâs early elite four days as when they meet. Not sure what theyâd have in common though. 4/10
! BracknellShipping - Gardenia & Karen-Karen likes grass tyoes and Gardenia has that somewhat wild side that Karen likes I can see them spending late nights camping after exploring all day. 8/10
***ChalcedoniteShipping - Karen & Roxanne-Isnât she like 16? Also I feel Karen would just see her as a spunky kid 0/10
! CockroachShipping - Burgh & Karen-Can we appreciate the name pleaseâŠ..Ok cool. Ok but Karen trying to learn how to paint the normal way and showing Burgh how to do spray paint work or paint a motorcycle? Look I think theyâd be cute. 8/10
! ColdNightShipping - Candice & Karen-Yes, double yes. Candice talking about the pressure of having the meeting point of dialgia, palkia, and giratina so close plus the regi temple, and lake acuity. Like the pressure of keeping all of these legendary places safe is alot of pressure. Then Karen knowing about ho-oh and wanting to keep them safe, anyways they can bond ina . cool way. 10/10
*DarkActShipping - Brycen-Man & Karen-Not Brycen, Brycen-Man. I really dunno because I feel like itâd be too close to the Masked Man for her to be comfortable. 2/10
DarkalleyShipping - Volkner & Karen-Hmmmmm maybe, but also I feel Volkner needs a more high energy person, so 3/10. As the toxic relationship their a part of in some hallmark like plot though 10/10
DarkGaleShipping - Karen & Winona-A possibility, but I kinda see them as friends just chillin watchin clouds. 3/10
*DarkHarvestShipping - Cilan & Karen-Didnât know Karen was popular with the trio, but ok. Anyways if heâs alot like he is in the anime thats gonna be a hard no. otherwise, eh maybe? 4/10
DarkMarshShipping - Karen & Sabrina-Friends I think. Like theyâd be comfortable around each other, but no spark in that way. 1/10
ElectricDarknessShipping - Elesa & Karen-I sort of want it just because while Karen dresses nice she is a tomboy meaning the clashes about fashion or manners would be great. 8/10
FightNightShipping - Karen & Maylene-If they were in the plot of a secret fight club, a hard yes. Otherwise, I donât see it. 1/10
GabbroShipping - Brock & Karen-I want to see Brock do his whole freak out just to write Karenâs way to shoot him down. After all romance takes awhile for, and if aggressive is your first interaction it scares her. Though he does stand down after being rejected so sheâd respect that, and maybe think about giving a chance. 5/10
GothShipping - Clair & Karen-Popular yes, but I like the Cynthia, Karen, Clair girl squad dynamic so much more. 2/10
ImpShipping - Karen & Valerie-Karen being vastly confused but fascinated by the antics of Valerie sounds cute.  7/10
InsectQueenShipping - Karen & Viola-The plots would be cute knowing Karenâs quirks with cameras. 8/10
LamentShipping - Flannery & Karen-Idk due to lack of things to connect on overriding if personalities would work. 3/10
LiptonShipping - Jasmine & Karen-I wanna say no cause I think sheâd be too sweet for Karen, but also yes because she can get super intimidating and tiny Jas actually wearing the pants in their relationship sounds interesting 5/10
**MortelleShipping - Fantina & Karen-NawâŠto much flash and show for Karen, but maybe contest mentor. Also Karen has a vendetta against Amity Square for itâs selectiveness of âcute pokemonâ. 0/10
! NightsongShipping - Falkner & Karen-The name of this ship is amazing, but Falkner is like one of those characters who gets shipped aorund with EVERYONE like really itâs kinda ridiculous and Iâm tired of him just beign thrown at everyone 2/10
! PaintedLadyShipping - Bugsy & Karen-How is this one not for Burgh? Yeah no heâs just too much like a kid. 0/10
RafureShipping - Erika & Karen-âŠcan their Vileplumeâs fall in love instead? Iâm 10/10 for that. Between them 2/10

DelilahShipping - Bruno & Karen-Eh maybe? I like the uncle and niece bromance they have tho. 4/10
! DementiaShipping - Lucian & Karen-I feel like theyâd either clash or hit it off with no inbetween. I Still stand by this but I think theyâd everntually fall for each other. 9/10
DisownShipping - Agatha & Karen-NOOOOO donât make Gma relationship sexy! -50/10
! HellaFineEliteShipping - Karen & Malva- Ok so came back, and yeah I could see it, but depends on interpretations again because they could just more easily spark into a fight or if the first interaction went sour not give it another shot. 5/100
IntuitiveShipping - Siebold & Karen-Actually had a rp with them shipped, was Twist!verse tho giving Siebold that rescuer mentality which helped. In general though I kinda want to see it. 7/10

Like he did hit on Cynthia and she has qualities like her, so could maybe work.  6/10 NeoEliteShipping - Lance & Karen-Like yeah I can see it. I feel too sweet because Karen needs someone that will argue with her when she needs redirecting 0/10 ClosestShipping - Karen & Zinnia-I mean the rebellious streak, the slightly odd behavior? Karen would find it intriguing, and if the move was made she wouldnât oppose it. 9/10 ! DarkMagicShipping - Eusine & Karen-Better watch out Morty, Ms. Steal Ya Dude is ova here! Yeah no no, they can only clash. Even without Morty beign the catalyst these 2 would clash. 0/10 DarkServiceShipping - Darach & Karen-HehâŠthe name alone tho. x3 (i am mature I swear) Ok kinda random, but possible. She isnât one to look down on someone due to social status. 5/10 ! DystopianDarkActShipping - Brycen-man, Cyrus, Karen & Marley-Brycen-Man is everywhere with Karen, and I donât know whyâŠalso sort of random combinationâŠbased on the name maybe a plot with them in a dystopian world. For some apocalypse theme plot though 10/10 Â

Other shipsÂ
BlackCatDog Shipping - Karen & Nanu They were shipped for a bit and I still think itâs a cute possibility. If nothing else just them talking about their pasts would be interesting. Theyâve both been through alot. 8/10
MoonFlare Shipping - Karen & Lysandre If I could only choose 1 ship for Karen itâd be this one. I just really like the parallels that they have with each other, and how both of them have compassion for the opposite sides but due to roughly a similar reason. Iâd have to go into alot to explain all that though. Basically I just really like how opposites attract here cause theyâd both have to grow. 10/10
Aqua Moon shipping - Karen & Archie Again Karenâs awful around water and I just think these two would have a blast interacting with each other. Theyâd also both be able to have serious moments too,a nd could even talk about what it was like to leave Rocket. Also I have a really awesome idea for Deity!Verse. 8/10

NightWatchers - Karen & Looker Ye theyâd picker sometimes and yes Karenâs bar might become a problem, but what if they have to work together and spy shenanigans ensue with these dorks insisting to themselves they need to stay professional. Cute af. 10/10
BlackSmog Shipping - Karen & Tabitha Tbh I could see it. Iâm not as firmly sold as some others but I can see it working. Besides Karen doesnât care if someoneâs an ex criminal or has humble beginnings. so ye could work! Although sheâd def want to get Tabitha to work out with her. 6/10
